I was able to set my traps on opening day but yesterday I took the tips of two of my fingers off with a tablesaw. I pulled my traps untill I get use of my hand back. Lucky me I had a muskrat in my colony trap! Very dark pelt even though he is a little guy.
-
 nice it's a good beginning and good bait for cats
-
cool! (except for loppin' off a few digits)
Congrats & hope u can get traps back out soon!
-
Congrats on the first one! Heal quick and get back to it!
-
Congrats bud. Good luck with the hand. Gotta be a story behind that! Hope ya heal fast!
-
My fingers are back in action! Most of the fingernail will grow back and doc said in a year or two the cold sensitivity will go away. This morning I caught a huge muskrat! Caught in Jesse (Ouchfoss's) marten trap baited only with some beaver castor. I made a spot in the bank look like a beaver had broken through the ice and slid up on shore. Thats where my trap funneled the rat in. The beavers keep dodging my cages. I really wish we could use conibears under water.
-
In the trap
-
right on bud that one looks like it will go XL for sure
-

-

I agree I wish I could go back to using them too, there is no better beaver killer than a conni. Nice work on the rat.
-
Nice! That is a pretty big rat!
-
Those table saws .......... you have got to watch them. I know several guys that have lost fingers on them.
Glad you back in business.
Good Job on the fur

For those not on the Washington State Trappers Association FB Page:
Today was my first beaver and first coon day! I also got a muskrat to top it off! Beaver was caught in Ouchfoss (Jesse) swing door cage trap. Coon was in a standard have-a-heart trap. Muskrat in a colony set.
-
Right on bud keep up the good work
-
Right on!! Now you got cat and marten bait. The castor is the best for cats as a lure
-
Nice work
-
Good work !

Good day for sure. Hope that skinning knife is sharp
-
Nice!
I love days like that where you get several animals. Makes up for all the days where you get skunked.
-
Awesome, very exciting!!!
-
Nice catch keep @ it.
-
Curious how you dispatch critters caught in a live trap. 22 cal to the head?
-
.22 short
-
Beaver #2 46lbs
-
He beat the cage up a bit, but caught him with just a bit of ground lure from a beaver several days before.
-
Nice catch
-
 nice job
-
 Now your hooked!
-
Awesome
-
Another big rat! Still chasing smart beavers who know what a trap is.
-
Good job Josh
-
 great catch
-

Rats have always been and always will be my favorite. They have such wonderful fur!

Another beaver! This time in one of my new swim through horse panel traps. I bought the 5'x16' horse panel that has 4"x4" mesh from North 40 outfitters. The trap is 1'x1'x4'. The 4" mesh worked great and held this little 15lb kit. I do not think they would hold otters.
-
Looks like it might be a tight fit!!
-
Your right.....otters would have a free pass.
-
So true Ethan
-
As many rats as I've caught in my swimthrews I think I'd be racking my brain wondering how my traps are getting set off
-
 good job josh

:yeah: you may get frustrated with an Mt trap.
It could be a good trap to just target Beaver, and leave the otter, and rats alone. Wouldn't take alot of effort to wrap the cage with 1x2 wire also.
-
Another beaver today in my bobcat cage trap made by ouchfoss. My horse panel swim through traps are 4 foot long and the only ideal spot I can find for them are den entrances. Of course now that I have the traps I cant find any live dens. Just a bit of castor made this guy mad enough to get caught.
-
Nice catch...
-
 Nice job on all of your catches
JC :hello:
-
Good job Josh!
-
Nice!!!!
-
That's cool your catching them in live traps. Are they beating it up at all? I have yet to ever catch one in a live set.
-
My larger 46lb beaver did his best to tear at the cage but the damage was minimal. The really tall bobcat traps work super well for this because they can swim/wade in and not feel claustrophobic in my opinion. I think if they were drowning there would be a lot more struggle and potential damage. I can try to get pics when I pull this location friday.
-
3 more beavers in my traps! All caught in my 1'x1'x4' horse panel traps. Some have 2"x4" mesh, some have 4"x4" mesh. Both hold beavers just fine. Simple conibear trigger. Works underwater and on land.
-
Great job Josh. Your doing amazing job your first season. Crongrats
-
Right on! That's an awesome catch!
-
Right on !! I dig the canoe set-up
