We started hunting a new area in SW Washington this year. We spent several days this summer and early fall looking for deer and learning the lay of the land. My 8th grade daughter really got into hunting this year and made is out nearly every day. After hunting from sun up to sun down Friday and Saturday we decided to sleep in, leave the house at 9:00, cut a truck and trailer load of wood first, then hunt. We finished cutting wood about 1:00, ditched the trailer load of wood on a landing, and headed to our favorite spots. After walking and glossing for a few hours we decided to hunt back to the trailer and head home. Approximayely one mile from the trailer we stop and look at one last place. As we walk around the corner there he stands, broadside at 50 yards. My daughter was so excited. My dad was with us as he is most days. I shot this buck with my grandmothers pre 64 model 70 in 308. Needless to say we had to put him on top of the wood as the truck and trailer were full. After all those days spent in the woods this year and not seeing a buck it felt as though a higher power and the angels who watch over us made this one happen. It sure feels like one of those events that was, "meant to be". (She took her orange off for the pic 😀)

Great job. Congrats on getting it done.

Awesome! I Keyed in on "hunt back to the truck". That's what I messed up more than anything when I started, and still have to remind myself not to get complacent on the way back! It's funny how that works.

Nice! Stayed in the game and scored at the last minute.

Nice buck! Congratz!

Nice buck and some great rounds of wood! Stay warm this winter while enjoying the venison!!

I like a nice load of firewood, and I like forkies. I've also had some pretty strange experiences hunting that hint at someone pulling some strings from the other side.
Great story.

Congrats to you guys!!

Your pics bring back so many memories for me. My dad was a logger and we always cut wood, hunted BT's and picked mushrooms all in the same day. Love it................ps. that o44 or 46 looks great!

That something you never see, a buck on top of a load of firewood! Good job

She made the plaque and I helped her mount the horns in the shop. 10x more enjoyable watching the kids learn and love to hunt than it ever was by myself. If I never shot another deer but got to watch the kids do it every year I would be just fine.

Very cool plaque!
