Title: Got robbed, need a more reliable trail cam. ????
Post by: PolarBear on November 23, 2016, 10:30:34 AM
Howdy.
Yesterday we were robbed and wouldn't you know it, my old Moultrie trail cam didn't do it's job. I am looking for a few semi inexpensive cameras with the black or non detectable i.r.   What would you folks recommend as far as reliability and ease of use?
Thank you

Yeah. They got 2 computers with all of our tax and business info, antique guns, jewelry and family heirlooms. If my camera had been working we might be in better shape.

Get a camera that has IR. Shouldnt be detected at all. I also highly recommend a lockbox for it. I used CAMLOCKBOX and it worked great

Bushnell aggressor no glow.  Youll find ebay to be the cheapest source for trail cams, 99% of the time.

I'd probably look more into an actual security camera setup with recording ability.

All of my $$ valuables and papers are in my safe and are good. They only took 2 guns. One old octagon barrel 30 lever action and my Grandfathers Winchester 80 year old .22 lr.  My wife's diamonds and expensive jewelry was in the safe. We are getting a permanent security/ camera system but the trail cams are for special remote spots.  Thanks for the input folks !

Yes sir. I got tired of all the Kalifornia liberalism running the state and moved south, young man... So much nicer here. I can ride my ATV's anyplace I want, except freeways ( motorcycle license ). Everybody loves guns, I mean everybody and hunting. Fishing too I guess. I'm actually 20 miles north of Nogales Arizona....

Fila Brasileiro security system.  Very effective deterrent.  Possible trauma to tweakers.  About 50$ monthly fuel cost.  Many perks as a bonus such as foot warmer, log deposits in yard, and extreme mailman hatred! :chuckle:

SM750 placed somewhere that'll get license plates.  Bushnell Aggressors everywhere else.
http://www.trailcampro.com/collections/reconyx-trail-cameras/products/reconyx-hyperfire-sm750

The SM750 will get readable plates day or night.  If it's positioned correctly, it'll get 5 usable photos of one vehicle as it goes by at 40 mph.

 :yeah:
Picking one up this weekend. They also have remote caneras to go with it. My wife's Aunt and Uncle love theirs. When my daughter house sits for them they slways know her every move and anyone who comes on to their property. My daughter would get texts saying that the UPS guy was coming up the drive before she could see him.  :chuckle:

Let me know how it works for you. I've been interested in one, but we have HOA's here and might not be allowed..

those systems they show on TV that let people see what is going on in the house creep me out. What if I want to sit around in the living room in my underware and smoke cigars when my wife is out of town??? :dunno:
I have been thinking about cameras for the same reason. My daughter got some and has already caught a crook in Renton.

My wife says that she will get tired of her phone going off because of deer running though the yard or me peeing in the driveway. We have a 1,000 foot long driveway and gave been talking about an automatic gate for years. Along with the other stuff I think it is time for obe as well.

I've got a long driveway as well.  I can never figure out if a long driveway makes it less or more likely that our place would get robbed.
If you don't mind, can you PM me and let me know what area of the state you live in?

I've been looking into some home security camera systems lately.  There are a lot of products out there, some wireless, some hard wired, some stand alone cameras like trail cams.  I'm not yet sure what I'll end up doing.

We have the Xfinity home security set up and couldn't be happier.  Motion detectors that send a msg to my phone when activated, and cameras that I can also look at from my phone and record or take stills from.  Fairly inexpensive for what you get.  PEACE OF MIND!
