I'm looking for a recommendation for an Aldo Leopold book. I've never read anything by him before, but I'm specifically interested in his views of conservation.
Any recommendations for a good introduction?

Start with a Sand County Almanac. It is a good read. As someone who has read most of his literature it does sum up his changing beliefs. You really need to several of his books to get the flow of how his mind changed over time as he learned more.absolutely true. This book changed wildlife and habitat management, and it's a great read.

No particular order. I just started reading as I purchased. So that is what I would recommend. Caution! You will find yourself pondering his writings at those times in the woods when you should be paying attention.
The challenge is to read a modern wildlife ecology book after or while reading "A Sand County Almanac". The two go hand and hand. In fact many wildlife management/ ecology courses require it. Try googling "Wildlife Ecology and Management" and you should find a good text book that is an easy read. Select a recent edition to save a few bucks. It is fascinating to see how his views changed and to compare where we are at today. What you will find disturbing is how far many in the hunting community have strayed. You will be surprised to realized a few other things as well. Wonder if you will figure out what that means? :chuckle:

Many do not realize he wrote the basis for the North American Model of Wildlife Management in 1933. A Sand County Almanac(1949) showed his change in thoughts and still influences management today!
