Well, we are off. Going to be a toned down year.
-
We put out baits last weekend and had lots of action on the cams in a short time.
-
Yesterday.
-
Today.
-
Nice videos. Glad to hear your out trapping!
-
Great videos, those cats are in trouble!! Good luck this season!
-
Can't wait to see those cats.
Like to see the video on that skunk and bobcat both coming out of that hole.
I've heard of two different animals living in the same place. I know house cats will live under a house with skunks at the same time. Seen it and trapped both of um. I've also seen raccoon and house cat living in the same space too.
JC :hello:
-
Looking forward to seeing those cats.
-
-
Dam !!! What does the video show?
-
:yeah: :o
-
hey, I know that spot!! :chuckle:
I hope you catch one of those cats!!
I couldn't! tried to, but failed. :bash:
-
Man! That doesn't happen very often with those traps...
-
I know the feeling
-
Man! That doesn't happen very often with those traps...
It happens with Every Trap when the Civets are on the prowl.
My guess is the Civets set those traps off just before the snow fell.
Have a fun season this year 3 Nails.

I think we've educated them pretty good! lol Pure stubbornness is the only thing keeping me there.
-
Dam !!! What does the video show?
I decided not to check it so I wouldn't lead thieves to the cam. The tracks in the snow showed that the cat wiggled the cages enough close the doors.
-
I'm using the metal tent stakes that you get at wall mart they are cheap ! I use one at each corner of the cage and it makes it really stable and firm
Just a idea

Good idea. I better brush them in better too. Of course, he's probably sitting in it right now waiting for me.
-
I hope so !!! I'm stocking up on bait now so come Christmas I can put cages where I've been pre- baiting

Will you usually be able to smell that a civet has been there and triggered the trap? Or just see bait is gone and door is shut?
-
I had to pull my traps and relocate to a bait at a lower elevation. Afraid I wouldn't be able to get back to them with all the snow. This bait had two cats working it. Probably a long boring video for most of you.

just watched your video on making your cage sets I just have a question about your game cams I just purchased a couple and I no you set cams on your sets to monitor them does the cold weather and rain effect the cams in any way? here in thenext week or so I am going to set up my cams to see if I can find a bobcat or two and then instead of trapping it I going to see if I can call it in with the fox pro been doing this for a year or two with no success so the next step is game cameras to see if I can locate one then go in and call it Question no 2 is what is a good bait to attract them around here?
-
The cold whether will shorten the battery life a little bit. Relentless westside rain can damage them. Where are you from? Beaver carcasses work great or the bones from a deer you processed. Duck or goose carcasses work as well. Let the bait soak undisturbed for a week before you check the cams.
-
From Ferndale I live next door to the mallard mafia might have to go score some duck carcasses they have plenty deer bones are long gone I no who you are my son bought some goose decoys from you years ago My neighbor plays baseball with your son I kind of follow you on here you have some really good video footage
-
Here's two of the videos of me being robbed.
-
After feasting on the bait in the first cage he heads to the other.
And then I come along an hour and a half later to discover my mistakes.
-
Going to get some wax for my camtrip traps tomorrow ...lol I haven't waxed them this year and had one freeze up the other night...but bait didn't get robbed....
-
Gotta say I enjoy the videos. Keep em coming. Good luck with the line.
-
Did you get him today. The wait is killing me
-
Man his belly is really fat. He'll be back!!!
-
Idk if I could have pulled those sets. I would still be trying those cats
-
Shaker.
-
Nice! Atleast you got a cat! I only got one cat trap out on my way to work... so we will see what happens....jist got done fleshing out some beavers tho so it will be going into the trap tomorrow to freshen things up! Good luck tomorrow!
-
Nice job!!!
-
We'll done let junior go until next year!
-
This is the only bait I can get to with all of the snow.
-
Right on! Changing it up a bit to get that monster Tom
Hopefully the door scoots him in...that's one reason why I don't use any guillotine door traps. I think the cage itself is big enough, just needs some regular o'l down swinging (Ouchfoss/Bruce style) doors to slam that fat Cats a$$ right in there!! :violent1:
Nice job on the videos! I have a few saved, but been thinking bout recording all my trapping
-
Great videos man. Keep them coming. I always enjoy watching and studying what other people are doing or trying. Especially people here in Washington with the same equipment and targeting the same animals I'm attempting to target.
-
That's why I prefer traps with conibear triggers and I trim the wires up a little higher so civets won't trigger the trap and I also wrap the chunk of beaver ( big chunk 5-10 lbs ) so they can't tear it down
My problem has been weasels chowing on the bait so I made a weasel box for every cat cage and I'll set it right next to the cat cage
Keep up the vids !!! Jake
-
I also wrap the chunk of beaver ( big chunk 5-10 lbs ) so they can't tear it down
Curious to know what you mean by wrapping the meat?

-
Nice trap I have 2 of them. Looking forward in using them this season. You can shut one door or use both. Good luck...... looking forward in watching another video soon with a big old tom in it.
-
I take about 6 feet of wire and I will wrap the big chunk of bait from the top to the bottom of the meat so it spirals around it all the way to the bottom with about 2" of space between the wraps and then wire it to the top back of the cage that way it can't be ripped out of the cage it makes them work to get at it and they will trip the conibear triggers . I think pan triggers you get more misses and non target critters and I've never had one freeze up on me with coni style
But I'm also putting weasel boxes to get those thieving little buggers
I think I'm going to put some cat cages out tomorrow and I'll take pics and show you
-
What video camera do you use ?

I am wondering this as well

As jake says, "wrap the big o'l chunk of frozen beaver meat in wire the way you wrap a Christmas gift in ribbon" :chuckle:
Wrap all the way around, then twist wire 90 degrees and wrap all the way around again...tightly; so when/if it thaws out it's still hanging up high for good scent travel & eye appeal
-
What video camera do you use ?
Samsung Galaxy S7. :chuckle: I had to turn off the HD on it because it was too big for my computer. It's old.
-
Trapped that civet that's been robbing me. I'll be moving on if I don't catch the big guy this week.
-
Right on ! Glad I don't have them
-
Curious to know if you ever caught the big one you were after? It's nice watching your videos while I am stuck at home with a busted rig and no traps out.

No. I should just pull it for awhile. It's getting too difficult to get to it.
-
Beautiful morning.
-
Congrats. 👍🏻
-

That pic needs to be go into the calendar
-
Nice beav.
-
Just posting this pic to see if it's any clearer. Still learning how to use a smart phone.
-
That Beaver looks really dark, you might have to have it tanned and add it to your fur hoard. :chuckle:

You know it! I'm going to take advantage of the low fur prices and cover a whole wall.
For about 5 minutes until my wife sees it.

-
Congrats 👍🏻
-
Awesome!!!!
-
Nice!
I'm hoping this big change in the weather will break my cat drought too. I know they are out there by my cages they just haven't went in yet.
-
Really helps when the Trap and the Bait aren't frozen solid.
Nice Catch.
-
Nice work
-
 sweet kitty love the spots
-
Cut way back on the rats this year to let them repopulate a bit while the prices are down. Still out prospecting though. I think we'll be back to this spot!
-
I'd like to see a close up of that trap does it actually have 4 doors? Great catch by the way!

:yeah: Looks like a really nice repeating trap!
-
Nice set and love the videos.
-
He is using a double wide colony trap and yes it has 4 doors. I make and use them in rigid and folding with or without bitebars, 24 to 30 inches long, 5x10 to 8x16, and with or without wings.
3nails are you using the design that Dave Vinke came up with? If you are put 2" bite bars at the end of the dividers and that will help keep the rats off the doors.
-
My new ones are 8x12x30, single door on each side with 2 inch bite bars, short ramps on the bottom and wings on the side. Just came up with the design yesterday and set one today to see how it works. Just curios what the purpose of the 4 individual doors is?

Yes, I got this design from the trap master himself! With a couple of my own additions.
-
Great video and pics !
-
Right on thanks for the video reply that is a sweet setup god bless!
-
He told me that the idea behind the 4 doors. When the trap is say 6x12 a single door will be 11x 7or 8 inches. That is a pretty good sized door for a rat to push. But when you put the center divider in you can use 2 doors 5x7 or 8 inches long actually less then half of the single door. That is why he made it with the 4 doors.
-
I might give the 4 door a try!
-
.
Sweat catch love you videos. Keep it up ang good luck the rest of the season.

It makes the trap more stable/durable also.
