Title: Desperate for Western WA Grouse
Post by: Mrwest on December 19, 2016, 02:31:14 PM: I live in Marysville, WA. Looking for grouse from North Sedro to Skykomish. Nothing south of snohomish. I've put a ton of miles in, I'm desperate lol hunting without a dog. Looking for someone to share a honey hole through PM. I know it's greedy but like the post says. I'm desperate haha dont have any time this month to get over east. Shooting a 20 gauge ithaca model 37 handed down from my great grandfather. I would love to get into some birds before the end of this season. Any pointers on elevation or location this time of year is greatly appreciated. Haven't seen a single one this year.

Post by: Henrydog on December 19, 2016, 02:40:06 PM: normally they are on logging roads...if you see a keystone light can there should be a ruff around the area. If you get hired up the road and see a busch light can that is were the blues live

Post by: Oldguy on December 19, 2016, 04:04:19 PM: A "Growler" near a culvert on a North to South logging road has always indicated a mecca of grouse for me. Even if the hunting is bad, the Growler is a nice find.

Growler? like an empty beer growler or some type of critter? Are you referring to a bobcat? not trying to be a smart@$$ this time, I am genuinely curious

Avoid Schmidt cans when grouse hunting. Schmidt made a lot of beer that apparently worked very well for many outdoor pursuits, but to my knowledge they never made a grouse attracting beer.

If they made the grouse beer, it would be the ultimate- but a goose, elk, or muskie can has no more grouse attracting power than any other random can.

Post by: RadShingo on December 25, 2016, 06:04:09 PM: I've been going to Sultan Basin and hiking in pretty far. I see 1 or 2 in 5 miles and that's it. Also south of Sultan and haven't had any luck either. Near lake Roesiger I've seen a few this year but not as many as I thought there should be.
