First hunt I've ever had family with me. Was pretty cool I had my little brother there to experience why I do what I do.

Every year I take the entire 14 day season off to hunt elk in Idaho. I've been hunting the same spot and do the same walk almost every morning for 12 years now. 9 out of those 12 years I have been succesful in notching my tag. The first few days started out pretty slow due to weather, not much moving around. Finally the sun came out about 1 in the afternoon on the third day of the hunt. Me and my partner gathered our things and got to our spots earlier than usual for the evening hunt knowing them elk had to come out and feed in the clearcuts. I had literally just got to my spot from camp bout a 2 mile walk got everything setup and across the canyon shots started going off. I knew it was my partner and could hear the bullets hit the bull from the echo through the canyon. I got on the radio and asked if he wacked one. He said yes and to get over there because there was another bull I'm the clearcut and the elk were not running away for some reason. We figure cause the *censored*s more than likely sounded like trees falling so the elk were use to it since the cut was fresh. They were actually still logging there for the next week. Anyway he got a nice 6x4 bull. That had made the trip. We hunted the next couple days in the rain again with no success. We gathered our things went back to town due to the elk not moving and unhuntavle weather. I stayed in town for a couple days then went back up with my little brother to see if maybe we could get him his first whitetail buck. Saw lots of does that morning but no bucks. The date was October 19 so still a bit early on the deer. Next day we loaded up and went to a spot where I had been Canon some dandy bulls. Well little did I know they were gonna start logging that area and the loggers had already went through the gate so that hunt was over. I turned around ran to another spot unloaded the wheeler and off we went. Bout a 1/4 mile before the clearcut I cut fresh elk tracks and the way they came up I know they were in the clearcut. We jumped off the wheeler and started running. Halfway up the ridge the bull bugles. I then got to really moving up the ridge. Right as I crest the top I look over on the next ridge and there stands a nice 6x6 bull with about 8 cows. I got setup on the closest log I could find and let him have it at about 350 yds. Perfect shot right behind the shoulder. He didn't even move after the first shot so jackd another one in and got ready to pull the trigger. He took a step towards me and I hit right where I was aiming. The bull was done didn't even take a step. I'd never been so happy killing an elk in my life due to the fact my little brother was there and got to experience it all. It's not the biggest bull I've shot but it will always be one that I will remember over the rest.
