Probably end up at cabelas. How are their grinders? Any other suggestions?

I really like mine.

I've got one, its been great!

What model, and how strong are you guys buying?
-
If you get one, get the commercial grade. I bought one 4 years ago and it's paid for itself several times already. Wish I had done it years ago.

Mines a 3/4 horse commercial, pre "carnivore" I can't feed it fast enough on the first grind w/coarse plate. Second grind is a little slower but still rips plenty fast for me
-
I have the 1 hp commercial model. I believe the carnivore replaced it.

carnivore has been awesome 1.5 hp but I got a bigger one for doing my own hogs.

1 HP has been flawless for me.

Carnivore replaced the Commercial. Basically the same grinder with a few improved features. Top notch grinders. Buy as many HP as you can afford.

Same here. Unless doing really massive quantities, I can't see needing more.

Whatever HP you choose, go with a #22 throat size if you really want to grind fast.

i bought the 1 horse carnivore and that thing is awesome....bought 32 lbs of pork shoulder and ground it up for breakfast sausage with a recipie here on the forum (turned out great)...stuck the whole throat and the gel pack in the freezer for about 6 hours. ended up spending more time than needed cutting up the meat...that thing ate it faster than i could feed it...coarse ground 32 lbs in about 2 1/2 minutes. just make sure to tear it apart and clean it out before using as the back end of the auger had a bunch of grease on it

I used the 1.5 cabela's grinder to grind my son's deer this year. It is an awesome grinder.

Thanks guys! I ended up with the 1/2 horse carnivore. They are expensive! Well worth it though! Grinds as fast as I need it to.
-
A big grinder is defenetily not required. I've had my 400 watt grinder for probably 8 years and it does at least a deer every year with zero issues.
-
400 watts is more than 1/2 HP.
