Hello,
I'm new to hunting Idaho and I planning to hunt there this season. For those who are familiar with their system, are there any opportunities to hunt deer and elk in the same time period? Not really sure how their system in run

Yes there is. It's pretty easy to navigate when you look at the big game regs. You'll have to do a little flip flop looking at deer and elk. But there are lots of areas open for both.

:yeah: lots of good areas with overlapping seasons

Hell, you could hunt two deer and two elk in most places!!

Mykiss,
How does that second tag thing work? I am still trying to get familiar with the Idaho Regs. Takes a lot of flipping back and forth to figure things out. I think I am going to have to start tabbing pages... :chuckle:

101.
For deer you can buy up to two, no more, I tried to buy three...no go.
So you could:
Buy 2 general tags (whitetail or regular)
Draw a deer tag, buy a general
Not sure when second deer tags were first available last year...late June?
Elk:
Buy a limited quota tag (i.e. Salmon zone) and a general tag
Draw a tag and buy a general or limited quota tag
Buy two limited quota tags (I think)
Buy two general tags
For the limited quota elk zones the 2nd tags don't go on sale for awhile, like mid-August

Not enough elk left for people to be shooting two all the time, the F&G doesn't care one bit about the wildlife all they care about is selling tags. Too many whitetail dieing too, lots of small bucks and does.

You do realize they have a set quota for these tags correct?
There is a quota for no resident tags and any of the second tags purchased come out of this quota. It's not unlimited second tags for everyone.
Plus I wouldn't imagine many people are spending $300+ so they can shoot another whitetail doe. :twocents:

Second deer tag isn't available until August.

The quotas are BS they are way too high in most places. Yea tons of people pay 300 to shoot little bucks
