I just saw this this morning. Apparently its supposed to push a 55Gr bullet at 3350FPS and only requires a barrel/Mag change from a standard AR15. anyone seen this?

Hey wait, don't they have to go in traditional order and come up with a 24 Nosler first, then a 30 Nosler and then the 22? :chuckle:
Then they can start in on the 25 8)
-
The 30 nosler is already out

what about a 22-26 nosler or a 26-22 nosler. Oh man. Is there a 300-22nosler blackout?
-
I read an article about it on American Rifleman.org. Sounds like a cross between a .223 and a 22-250. Its got me interested!
-
Why doesn't this thread have a poll, with nonsense questions???????
-
Here is a real question. Is the 22 Nosler a brand new case, or does it have a parent case it is based off of?

I believe it's new. Kinda looks like a 6.8spc with a smaller rim to fit a 5.56 bolt.
-
Yes finally found the answer. Your right it appears to be 6.8spc
-

Well almost a 6.8
-
this will be expensive for a while. Not having a parent case means you can't form your own brass. Thats the first thing that comes to mind as I ponder this
-
So 22 PPC performance without worrying about the bolt.
-
seems like it, 22PPC is its own demon as well isn't it?
-
Jay your inbox is full

I was kinda hoping it was a necked down 7.62x39 case.

Midway has everything you need in stock. Complete uppers, plain barrels, mags, brass and dies.

nope

6mm-22 Nosler sounds cool eh?

Duly noted thank you!

It's 220 Russian based and similar to 7.62x39/Grendel etc

$145 for 250 pieces of brass....
-
LMAO. Nice poll.

Cool I figured some one had to try it off of a real common case.

at least this thread and poll are for something genuine and not me being a Smart...
Don't get used to it. :chuckle:

22PPC is based off of 220 Russian. the nosler 22 is proprietary.
Sorry for the confusion

I find it encouraging that in the past 5 years or so there has been a lot of new cartridge offerings from manufacturers. I am hoping that this keeps pushing advances in modern ammunition. Maybe someday we'll be deer hunting with AR-15's :yike: :sry: :chuckle:
-
need to be able to select more than one option
-
It would seem that anytime you can take common produced brass and adapt it to your need it is fairly cost effective change... unlike the 22nosler, while cool will be quite expensive ammo.

Plenty of places to hunt with AR's

They said that about Creedmoor too..
-
Has Creedmoor ammo cost dropped a bunch since introduced?

Yes.

Yes.
I bought 100 Rnds of Hornady Match 140Gr ELD-X recently at $29 a box
-
Not any more expensive than premium 223.

I was looking at brass price

That doesn't seem outrageous to me
-
For those concerned with the rim diameter. I shoot a .30BR in a BAT action that has a PPC bolt face. I didn't want to open up the bolt face to BR dimensions so I had a cutter made to turn down the BR rim to PPC dimensions.

My comment was for Special T about ammo price.
I think it's a very good price on the brass, Nosler makes great brass.
-
One other thing, this is roughly the ballistics of the .222 Remington Mag but from a shorter barrel. This almost seems to be "churning" to me.
-
I think it is going to flop, not too much over a .223, going to be similar to the results .223 WSSM. Just my opinion, but did read of the new 33 nosler also.
-
.204 anyone? :dunno:
-
33 nosler looks pretty good - 2550 with 300 gr but I see no advantage over 338 Norma and lagging and Edge, and Lapua - except maybe get by without a brake ?
-
.204 anyone? :dunno:
Why? :dunno:

King of fur centerfires!

.220 swift or 22-250 work quite well, no need to reinvent the wheel.. although this is designed for ARs but i believe there is a few 22-250 ars in production?

It's for AR15's. 22-250 is AR10 and is a much bigger and heavier rifle. I like the 22Nosler over .223 WSSM as the Nosler is double stack and does not require proprietary upper receiver and bolt.
I'm waiting for the 6mm version :chuckle:

why? No point, you can't deer or elk hunt ethically with a semi auto

I run both these rifles almost exclusively. I consider my 220 the long end of the law for varmints, but about 40 % of the time, I'm putting BIG holes in yotes. Wouldn't trade it for the world though.

Pretty much sums it up. I guess it's a good option for the factory ammo guys though. I'd probably go with the 224 AR (22/6.5 Grendel) though just so that it would run at a shorter OAL. That much case capacity really deserves a heavier bullet and a shorter case would make that a viable option in the stumpy little AR-15 mags. :chuckle:

When I saw this I thought immediately that this is nothing new. I read about this cartridge forty years ago reading C.S Landis and Phil Sharpe's works.
It is an old cartridge w/new powders it reaches it's full potential ~ 1940 Leslie Lindahl .22 Lindahl Chucker in both rimmed and rimless versions. These are based on shortened .219 Zipper and .25 Remington cases respectively.

Don't forget the newer, but still obsolete, .225 Winchester which was an "updated" Zipper.

Other than being completely different in every dimension and application.

It would be hard for me to beat up that beautiful Nosler brass in a semi auto. :chuckle:

I cringe every time I look at the Lapua brass getting tore up my AR. :bash:
-
Try shooting HK's
-
At first blush, this seems like a great cartridge. But when looking at Ramshot's 5.56 load data, with same 24" test barrels and 55 grain bullets, the 22 Nosler has less than a 50 fps advantage.
I'd happily give up 50fps to run a 24" barreled 5.56 over same barrel length 22 Nosler.
-
I saw today that midway has 22 nosler uppers in stock
-
Added another option to the poll...

Looks like Midway has stoner uppers on sale
-
I lost interest in this cartridge for the time being. 20 practical...I wish I could find an upper for that price
