Title: 2017 Spring Bear Apps
Post by: Antlershed on January 20, 2017, 01:56:21 PM
Just spoke with someone from DFW, and while 2017 licenses should go on sale either today or Monday, we won't be able to submit spring bear apps until the middle of February. Deadline will still be 2/28, so we will have just two weeks to do it.

WTH is going on with WDFW.  This is just nonsense.   :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

In all fairness, if you can't get an app submitted within two weeks, you have problems. :twocents:

It's a new system, and hopefully they get the kinks out sooner rather than later.

Wait..... I still can't log in to the Wdfw system without having to purchase something!!  It goes straight to that page... Sure was glad they called me back so I could put in my harvest report after they told me "Wait 7 to 10 days and everything should be good to go" and of course it still didn't work...  :bash:  :bash: :bash: I wonder if I can delete my account and start over??

I can confirm this. I was having issues getting signed into the new interface. After several phone calls, etc, it finally accepted my user name and password. WDFW did mention that they do control when the deadline is for the spring bear application and that may be affected if they cannot get the site online in time.

The turkeys in Wyoming taste better.   :chuckle:

Actually, I am just opted in for Wyoming notifications, and they don't allow you to select which species you want notifications on.

After you select big game you then have to select next year's documents. It will either be at the top, or at the very bottom if you are on a mobile device.

Slightly off topic (sorry!).

I got the deer/elk/etc. license.  Will I select wet side or east side for elk later on?  I didn't see that option.

As for the elk choices and weapon choices it propted me during the checkout under the survey portion.  I was able to make my choices then.

If I didn't put in last Spring but did the previous year will my 1 pt from 2015 still be their? Do they ever go away or not until you draw? And lastly if I have my father put in for a partnership tag with me where we both draw can I use that 1pt?

SORRY FOR LONG WINDED QUESTIONS, NEW TO DRAWING FOR TAGS. THANKS

Yep your points will always stay there until you draw.

Your points will go into the draw with your group. They'll average the points of the group.

You'll actually be in the draw this year with two points. Your point from 2015 and another point that you get when you submit your application this year. If you apply with your dad and he hasn't applied before, he'll have just the one point for this year's application. Your points will be averaged, so 1.5 points for the partnership application, and I believe that will round up to 2 points in the draw.

February 10th and still not able to submit apps. I called the 24 hour licensing customer service and they had absolutely no explanation as to why. Of course they want me to call the main office Mon - Fri so they can get back to their cribbage game.
I wonder how much this new fabulous system is costing us (YOU and ME), and how many man hours are being spent to fix this new system that never worked to begin with. I can't help but think that it's deep inside $6 figures, possibly $7 figures. I also heard that waves of people made the journey to Grays Harbor to dig razor clams, but the local vendors licensing systems were down.
It's clear to see why they tried to raise the license fees while taking away more opportunities. They gotta pay for this system somehow.
I'm sure glad Idaho Fish and Game came to the sportsman's show to do the DIY deer and elk hunting seminars. Kinda sounds appealing!

This has been confusing to say the least...

The most concrete info I've found is here: http://wdfw.wa.gov/news/jan2417a/

"Spring bear hunters hoping to draw a permit for 2017 can purchase their application now, and will be able to submit for their preferred hunt choice online from Feb. 15 through midnight, Feb. 28. The spring bear drawing will occur in early March."

I've marked my calendar for the 15th. Hope this helps others.

I checked yesterday and you still can't submit bear or MS permits.  Typical wdfw, they'll probably release the results the day before the season starts.

Some people just like to complain..?

Typically we have been given 2 months to submit bear apps and 3 months to submit multi-season. I am one of those that usually submits my apps the first day the window is open. That said, they aren't pushing back the deadline, or results, they are just pushing back the day you can begin submitting apps, and they have been upfront about the date for at least a month now. We will still have two weeks to submit bear apps and a month and a half to do the multi-season apps. If you can't get it done in those timeframes, then we've got bigger issues here.  :chuckle:

I received my license and tags today and nowhere does it say I purchased spring bear app. I did successfully online and also submitted it successfully. Shouldn't it say you purchased it on your license? I  believe last years did. Mine just says big game (deer, elk, bear, cougar) with small game.
