I've had the Ruger Mark 2 and 3 and the S&W Victory pistols.  My preference is for the Ruger series.  The only difference between the Mark 4 and the earlier Ruger models should be the Mark 4 disassembles easier.

Love my MKII target model,  shoots as well as I can hold it!!

Problem is,  they are getting hard to find at gun shows,  lots of MkIII and IV's

Mark IV is the better pistol. Disassembles in a couple seconds and no stupid loaded chamber indicator to gum up. The machining, fit/finish on my MK IV Hunter is perfect. The buckmark and victory does have a slightly better/lighter trigger. Can't go wrong with any of em though.

Sig trail side are really nice if you can find one. Little smaller, accurate and great triggers.

I have 2 Rugers and a Buckmark.
The Buckmark is the easy favorite.
There are lots of threads on this.

Ill add my vote to the buckmark. Best .22 pistol I've owned. simple trigger mod makes em even better IMO.

Of those I vote for the buckmark. I have lots of 22s and my 4" threaded buckmark with a can is my favorite woods guns by a long shot!

Buckmark all the way, my wife bought one early last year, been a flawless, extremely accurate pistol. Probably ran 1500 or so rounds through it, haven't had any failure to fire or feed yet. Gonna think about picking one up of my own to pack around for grouse hunting I think.

Hers isn't the base model, it has a heavier looking barrel, and interchangeable grip panels. Can't remember the model though.

Of these three, I enjoy shooting the M&P 22 compact the most but I don't think you could go wrong with any that have been mentioned above.  For accuracy, I definitely shoot my Mk II Target the best.  I put VQ trigger kits in both my Mk II and 22/45 Lite and for me, that made shooting them well, a lot easier.

+1.  Or spend some more and get a S&W 41.

I would be hard pressed to use my 41 as a woods/ hunting gun. The trail side on the other hand would make a great woods gun! Lightweight and a tack driver.
