I saved the heart and Liver and was thinking about canning them together with onions, but I wonder if the Liver will hold out or turn to jelly like? Anyone try this already or what are your thoughts?
-
I imagine it might work on heart, but liver seems like it would turn to pudding.
Fresh liver sounds good right now. :EAT:

My wife boils my livers for dog food, and they actually get pretty solid. Maybe take a liver, chunk up a pint or so, and can it while you're canning something else and see how it does. Worst you can do is make some dog food!
-
Yep dog food!

Don't waste that heart in a can! Marinate in something with vinegar and hot peppers, slice it up, put in on skewers and grill it for as short a time as you are comfortable. It is one of the best parts of the animal!
-
I guess you can't nock it till you try it. I'll try anything once. Who knows might be good :dunno:
-
I'd try canning them different ways, Some together with peppers, onions & garlic. Seperate with the same mix of ingredients. And then seperate with different types of additives.

My hearts and liver never last that long. Usually gone within 2 days after harvest.

Yep. Liver for dinner day 1, and heart gets sliced and dropped in marinade, to be grilled on day 2.

Something close to road and I'll bring them home for dog food. I don't really like liver and heart is not worth digging out really.

pure insanity! Slice thin and pan fry hot and fast! So delicious. Liver on the other hand.......I would never subject my dogs to such a thing :chuckle:
