Been tossing around the idea of upgrading my Trap shotgun. Right now I am just using a Red Label and/or a BPS. I think I want to get into a Rem. 1100 or a BT-99. Anyone have any thoughts on the two, or other considerations? Trying to stay under 1500. Would love to go used if I can.

Can't go wrong with a 99. Get a Used old model BT 99 and be done with it. Most club for sale boards have one for under $1000.
My kid shoots a Citiori CX 60/40 they are $1599 New in the box
Are you shooting league or ATA? Only reason I am asking if you are going to be shooting a lot semi auto's are a PITA to clean vs a single barrell

I shot an 1187 Premiere Trap for over 20 years. Did very well with it. If you go the 1100/1187 route, grab a few extra sets of rings to keep in your shooting bag. They break. For singles and handi the BT99 is probably a better choice. Easier to clean, and very reliable. Try to shoot one at your club on a practice night, see if it is a gun you can hit targets with. Also, keep your eyes open for a used Perazzi TM1, or a Ljutic 73 or even a Ljutic Mono. You can find these used in the $1500-2500 range if the BT99 does not work out. Best new BT99 price I have found is usually at White Elephant in Spokane. Shoot before you buy...hit the larger ATA events and there should be a few trap guns for sale. Lots of good options out there. Good luck and let us know what you buy!!

I've used a Win 101, a Win Super-X Model 1, a Rem 11-87 and a couple of different upland shotguns. The 11-87 actually was a duck gun but I had an additional butt stock that had a monte carlo comb (raised it up for trap shooting). I'd say either of the two semi's I used had good triggers out of the box. You can't go wrong with an 11-87.

Henrydog, I shoot a little league right now, just two or three rounds per week. Last year I registered with ATA but didn't end up shooting but one event. I just got busy with other hobbies. I am thinking about giving it another try this year. I just run into issues because i split time with Archery.
My red label right now beats me up pretty good, that kind of why I am interested in a gas gun; to help manage recoil over the course of an event.

You didn't say what ammo you are shooting as in how much shot and what fps.

1 1/8 8 shot at 1200.

you could drop down in either velocity or shot weight and still break the same number of targets.... if not more. Mind you I'm talking skeet- I shot it all summer with 3/4 oz of shot out of a 12 gauge. But you could go down to an ounce of shot or cut the velocity to 1145 fps.

Coyote, I shoot a lot of ATA. You need full 1 1/8 1200fps if you are going to be shooting handicap. The red label (I've always wanted one) is likely beating you because it does not fit you. My BT was fitting to me. It has no felt recoil. I have been told 70% of people shoot shotguns the do not fit. The 1100 competition comes with adjustable stock so that might be your best bet. If you are not shooting a couple of flats a day I think it might be a good choice. I know that browning is making a 99 this year with adjustable comb and butt from the factory but they are not in stores yet. There are many 99's out there for sale at clubs. Browning also make a BPS trap for $800 new. I can't find one locally.
With the Spokeman Review shoot is 1/2 over. There might be more used guns coming on the market in the next couple of weeks.

My father has had good dealings with Terrys Gun Vault. They sell some pretty nice trap guns.

I spent a lot of money on shotguns that did not fit but somebody said 'You can't go wrong with....'
Rem 1100 and BT99 could not fit more differently.
Try before you buy.

Used Browning Trap guns usually under $1K and don't pass up a Maroku (Charles Daily) made O/U. They are basically the same as a Browning. When I was shooting ATA or PITA I used a BT99, Charles Daily or a Velmet 412 with two barrels a single and an O/U. Ended up shooting a Beretta SX another combo gun. I'm only shooting Sporting Clays now with a brace of Browning 525's in 12, 20 & 28 with a tube set for .410. My next upgrade will be a Blaser F3 Vantage. Just remember FIT-FIT.

Getting the opportunity to handle and shoot different guns has been a real problem. I shoot at a small club that typically only has 5-8 guys show up when they open the trap up. I have been to several larger events, but haven't really shook any hands.
Hopefully I can handle a couple different ones this next month or so.

Plenty of shooters at Marlin Gun Club on Sundays right now. Club is a mile north of HWY 28 on Rd W. Best burgers and garlic fries known to mankind are grilled there on shoot days. Might be worth the drive.

I have a browning bt100 and browning citori plus combo. That id be willing to sell if there is any interest. Both guns have invector plus chokes

Got to shoot my spokesman with a friend of mines Beretta Teknys. I really liked it and shot it fairly well. What is everyone's thoughts on it, and running and auto for trap?

I shot a pair of Beretta A303s when I was an A class shooter and I am one of the few who can wear a Hugo Hake State Shoot buckle legitimately. I only cleaned them after the end of the season because the recoil impulse changes and that will mess with your head for a while if you clean it in mid season. So ya' either clean it every night, which you had to do w/every other auto back then, or you don't clean it until after the season.
