I have thought of this for a couple of years. Crab and salmon seasons will be open, transport to and from can probably be arranged, places to pitch a tent would be available.
I'm trying to get an idea of how many people would be interested. Please only vote once for one of the first three choices. If you have your own boat to bring check yes as well for that one. If it is more than you, please post a note as to how many additional (not including you) would be in your party.
GACK! I forgot to add the boat question and can't seem to change it now.... I'll check my Mod superpowers and see if I can... Nope.

This on Decatur Island?

Yes it would be.

Is there somewhere to moor a boat nearby? I would need a slip and not just an anchoring area.

they got a fancy one that will allow you to inspect the bottom of your boat!
-
There are no slips but I can likely round up mooring buoys. Load/unload dock access would be granted.

Ha ha, you are uninvited..... :o

JJB11B I'll have to admit that was cleaver. :chuckle:
Don't worry Loki, he would probably not be able to travel that far on water before becoming violently sea sick and turn back in his john boat. :peep:
-
Which side of the island?
-
I'll likely be in Arkansas. Sorry Loki 😞, I laughed though.
-
Which side of the island?
Underside.... :chuckle:
Dock access would be on west side, public ramp is on the east side.
-
I didn't select either date because August is a pretty busy month, but definitely interested. I would have a boat and need to know about Moorage too.
-
Hey guys I never post on here but I read almost daily, I've got a 22 foot Parker and I'm pretty sure that sounds like a good time! Count me in if you have a mooring, slip, or anchorage idea for my boat
-
Sounds like fun ! My Dad would be out from South Africa would love to get him some fishing and crabbing and meet folks. No boat here.
-
I would love to finally make it to a gathering. Sounds like a great time. I do not have a boat to get me there but would be willing to help out on fuel and other expenses

How far is the swim from the mainland? :dunno: :chuckle: or I can start to practice my hitchhiking thumb

@Smossy's Girl
Oh you'll make it no problem, it's about 45 min if I remember right, shorter then the English Channel I think. :chuckle:

From the marina 6 1/4 miles, but if you get a running start and cliff dive at Washington Park, it is probably less than 5..... :chuckle:

I thought Smossy had a canoe?

:yeah:
Just start two hours before the slack and you should get there about two hours after. ;)
-
I didn't vote on a date but defiantly in! What are the restroom facilities like? :chuckle: it would be cool to get a Hunt-WA flotilla out there fishing and crabbing for a day or two.
-
That is a generous offer. I have yet to be to a Hunt-WA get together.
I didn't vote on a date and I don't have a boat, but I would be glad to help cover expenses, and I could bring BB/pellet guns, etc. for kids target shooting, if desired. I'd understand if there were too many riders and not enough captains. But otherwise, I would be 2-4, depending on wife and youngest, if we would make it.
-
Hey Lokidog that sounds great! I am definitely interested. It's been a while since I've been over that way. I didn't vote for a date because I don't have any vacation I can use (I'll still be on my probationary phase) and won't have any days off for sure, but I will try to arrange my schedule and open up some time once you settle on a date. I won't know until it gets closer, though. It would probably be just me or me and one more. No boat, so I'll need to boat-pool with someone.
-
I thought Smossy had a canoe?
It's mine!... welllll... maybe now it's "ours" ;)
... our SUV tranny died lol can't get it to the water.
-
Did you pick that spot because of trump island?

We have lots of trees, for the guys anyways. ;)

Nope, picked it because people I don't know hate it when I invite friends over to party in their back yards.... :yike:
I built a really nice greenhouse on Trump Island a while back.
-
I don't know anybody on this forum but I would be willing to take a couple guys on my boat to crab or fish, they will need to get there on their own though. I need to meet more people that are interested in the outdoors.
-
Boat people - the option is now up for you
-
There is a charter ferry that goes out there, maybe if we had enough people we could get a deal for the weekend.
Lokidog has the contact info.

It would still be $30 or more per person,I think, even with a group. Boat pooling would be cheapest and no worries on meeting the shuttle schedule.
The toughest part is parking at Skyline Marina.
-
People could also ferry to Lopez island and us with boats could go pick them up.

Yes, Hunter Bay dock would be the closest (3 1/4 miles). However, parking could be a hassle there that time of year as well, plus the expense of the ferry is not cheap.
-
Bump! because I like my forum peoples
-
30$ or not. Sounds like an adventure. Tired of Fishstiq's chickens, unlimited beer supply (which I must add me and elk247 almost finished one year), good for nothing 60+ yard archery range, and huge guest bedroom... Cant wait to NOT go back there. :chuckle:  All jokes aside, we love you man for hosting the previous years BBQ's. Unfortunately for you it is time to pass on the torch :chuckle: . I think Ed can handle us this year. Hopefully one year in the near future me and SG will be able to host it for yall. But dont expect too much hospitality. Maybe just a reliable shtter, and some land to be crazy on. Were pretty rural so extreme belligerentness and idiocy would be accepted, as long as its kept in the yard with the goats.

I wish. :'( darned fire season anyways!

Ditto and I am a one man band at my shop after July 1.
Sent from my super duper thingamajig

I would be down. I don't know what my job situation would be but I would make sure to have the time off. I don't have my own boat currently but am an experienced sailor, and have plenty of crab pots I could bring and some fishing gear as well. Plus some camping gear. I might have a friend that would let me borrow their boat but no guarantee on that. I really like this idea though. You can count me in.
-

:yeah: Or I would be down

Would this be weather dependent at all? If the crossing gets nasty, folks might have to be prepared to hang out on the island a while until the "shuttles" can get them home.... I don't know if that's a concern at all or not?
-

better option would be to take a state ferry to Lopez island, then you only need to swim 1000'

Beginning of August? I can pretty much bet my bank account that it will be warm and dry, and likely calm.... ;)

Better take your HuntWa sticker off the back of your truck or you will be turned around at the ferry landing. :chuckle:

Well, this summer has been a lot busier than exzpected. I've had too much going on to even think about getting this organized and realized that the summer is already flying by. :(
I'd still like to do this some time, maybe next year.
