Title: Spinone owners breeders
Post by: runamuk on February 09, 2017, 04:21:23 PM
Does anyone here know anyone with Spinone's.  I am looking for some first hand information and have some very specific questions.

I have a friend that has one for a pet. I believe I've seen Matt Nolan training one or 2, but idk how you'd contact him. What are you going to hunt with one? Maybe the NAVDA guys on the forum know some peeps?

These guys had their annual club GTG at Carlsons this Summer. Other than that, I have nothing. http://www.spinoneclubofamerica.com/

Go to the treasure valley navhda website and the test secretary Penny NASCAR and her husband breed spinones. They have some nice dogs.

Send me your contact information in a pm .. I will pass on your information to the right person.  I see her every Sunday for training she has 2 GCH Master Hunter Spinone's.  There are a lot of Spins here in the NW.. But you must be very careful where you get one from.  There has been quite a bit bad breeding just because the dogs were winning in the ring.   Colin mentioned Matt who has done a outstanding job with one but that dog is dysplastic and the owner is very disappointed and fortunately will not be breeding it.  They are a fun breed to be around I have had the pleasure of working with quite a few from here and from Europe. I have also had the pleasure in the past to hold a seminar for the parent club SCOA (Spinone Club of America) at their National Specialty a few years back.

Thanks for the direction.  I am in the research stage and hunting is not my primary objective.  I have a list of wants and needs and in that is a good woods dog, companionable, reasonable to train.  Longevity and good health. Aesthetically I want a shaggy bad hair day dog.  Oh and it needs to be a fairly large dog for some of my needs down the road.  This is just one of the breeds that has made my short list.

I worked the Spinone day at carlsons two years. That was interesting. Saw a mix of a lot of things. Most of them there were not the most enthusiastic hunters I've ever seen. I know a little about them and how they are supposed to have a ploding gait for a hunter on foot and this and that..

Been around a few personally. One was very spooky and the other two were very friendly dogs who are successful in the dog show world. I'm sure Richard and I know the same 5-6 Spinones in the area.

For me personally, they remind me of a Bassett hound with long hair and long legs.

Look up Birdsboro Pointers and Spinoni. I believe they have produced some dogs that are doing well in NAVHDA.

Bringing this back.  After finding my home and settling in to my life this is definitely a breed I am interested in.

I do not need a puppy
I do not need the most bird driven dog
I work long hours 8 months a year
I can take a dog to work sometimes
I have a fenced yard
My dogs are house dogs
I have a rathuahua
I prefer females

If anyone has knowledge of a litter or washed up hunting prospect seeking a home, please share via pm or email.

I just pick up a spinone, he is almost six months now. I can honestly tell you I am amazed with this breed. he has picked up on all of the pre-conditioning training for becoming a Gun Dog he is a very laid-back chill dog in the home but is ready to get outside as soon as he knows it’s time. I believe this breed is a perfect pick for somebody who wants a dog with a drive for birds and a drive to spend the day on the couch. they are very much large breed dog at five months he  is 45 pounds lean. His nose is really on point he tracked my wife and son down a couple 100 yards through a maze of trails. I am definitely bias to this breed now haha. If you would like to know the breeder I went thought pm me.

@bluemoon. You might recognize her, I believe a few of her offspring train with you.  :)

Congratulations on your new fur baby!  I’ve followed some of these in hunt tests a few years back and thought of them as a better Bred, waaay more laid back, Wire haired pointing griffon when I saw them a few years back.

I will say, when I first watched them work a field, they looked like they had no drive to hunt....learned that they had a naturally slow, loping type of gait....and w their long legs covered much of the same ground a more “energetic breed” would in the same amount of time.

Having walked her I can say she looks plodding but I need my adthma medicine to keep up.  Its the couch potato in the house and garden that makes her perfect. Exactly what I hoped for. Out at camp her sniffer got a workout. I know she is birdy and likes quail but she was never started under a gun so we will tackle that down the road.
