Looking into getting a down jacket for those cold days spent glassing. Obviously Kuiu makes great gear, anyone have experience with this jacket, or other warm down jackets that have worked for you?
Thanks!

i use the Kuiu Super Down and have been very happy. I have also used it on the ultra cold downhill skiing days. I have used it cold glassing days, and I have also used it in the sleeping bag.
I am about to buy another down, which will likely be from Mountain Hardwear, only because I will do so on Friends and Family and want one in Black or solid color, which I believe Kuiu doesn't offer any longer.

I have the super down coat and really like it.
Used it in the rain and even tho it's not a raincoat it actually kept me pretty dry and warm

You cant go wrong with a super down. I dont have one but a buddy of mine does and its a sweet jacket. I have the sitka kelvin and they are both super warm and great to layer under a soft shell as well. I would say the only difference in the two is that the kuiu is a few ounces lighter and packs down smaller in your pack if thats a concern.

I've got the kuiu. I know it sounds a little weird, but I actually find it a little too warm to wear a lot. But the size to warmth ratio is crazy so it's always in my pack for when I really need it. And when you're cold, you'll think it's the greatest thing ever.

I like some of my non hunting brand puffys better than my Super Down, love me some Kuiu gear but dang that coat is loud compared to a few of my others. For how often I put it on to glass take it off to hike and in and out of the pack the noise is enough to bother me. Nice coat though, possibly a bit more water resistant than some of the others.

I have a couple of different options. Our go to down jackets for the girlfriend and I are Kryptek Aquillo, but we both also have various 32 Degree (Costco) down jackets and vests in earth tones that we take with us also for extra layering or when the forecast looks favorable and we can leave the Kryptek behind. Hard to beat those 32 Degree pieces for $20!

I've seen those 32 degree puffys and wondered why I spent so much on the Kelvin! The only thing I see is that the quality hunting puffys down are treated so if they get wet they wont be ruined but I guess at 20$ you could buy quite a few before it would match one kuiu or sitka!

I have one of those costco down coats as well, and it sure is warm, especially for the money. Sounds like everyone is pretty happy with the super down, that is probably the direction i will go when the time comes. Thank you!

Gotta throw a vote out for the First Lite puffy. Super light, super compressible.

Stuff the superdown into a xl sandwich bag and throw in the bottom of your pack. If you get cold there it is and weighs 9 oz you don't even know its there.
-
got a good deal on the Superdown jacket and pants, will probably sell the pants though, I dont think i would use them very much. Thanks for the advice!

There is word out there KUIU is going to come out with a more durable down coat. It had some kind of Guru or fund raiser linked to the development.
