Owned the panther and it works well.  Nothing compared to TR-1 but for the price it is worth it.  It makes it nice cause you can be at front of boat grabbing something or tying a leader and not have to be back at kicker.

Thanks Buzz. That's pretty much why I'm looking into these units hands free. Panther also matches up with mastertroll and only using 1 controller. Python looks great also more solid imo.  Which is why I'm leaning towards it. Though I would need two controllers. Still almost 2/3 cheaper than the TR1.

If you don't need to be able to use the throttle for adjusting speed constantly you can set your kicker up like in this thread on another site with the quick releases. It takes a whopping 15 seconds to get your kicker set up for the troll and then you just steer with your steering wheel. Also brings your cost down to about $30.

(Look at the second to last post in the thread)

When I had my Lowe flat bottom it was just a simple straight rod with the quick connect fittings on each end connecting the main to the kicker, you did have to disconnect to raise the motor but it took maybe 10 seconds to pop it off

I had the panther on my last boat. It worked great when it worked... even though I had the saltwater version I still went through two of them in three years. Water would work its way in there somehow. The third one lasted until I sold the boat.

My buddy is a guide and runs the TR-1. It is amazing to fish in his boat. It is worth every penny.

I have the Panther and Mastertroll setup on my boat.  It works great and I am happy with it.  One controller for throttle and steering is great.  When the time comes I will place it with a TR-1.  The auto pilot has my vote.  But for the money the Panther/Mastertroll is great.
