Title: 2016 E-WA bear
Post by: Lapua07 on February 21, 2017, 09:31:13 PM
Lost my old account info. Figured I'd start a new one. Seen quite a few familiar faces on here. Here's my 2016 fall bear.

Nice!  Tell us about the shots and he load.  Looks like you could reach out with your rig.

Well the rifle is what's left of a Savage 112LM in .338 Lapua. 28" Proof Research barrel 1-9.4 twist, Terminator T4 break, Timminey trigger, Vortex high match grade rings, EGW 40 MOAB rail, and all topped off with a  Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50 EBR-2. Little bit of throat work to stretch the max OAL on the 300gr Berger Elite Hunter's. I'm currently maintaining a .464-.528" 3 shot group @100. I've shot steel consistently out to 1760 yds but would never attempt that on game.

16' Bear
While glossing for muleys in a basin with a buddy of mine who was archery hunting this guy showed up at first light around 900 yds. We watched him for 3+ hours hoping to get a look at a 25+" muley we seen 3 days earlier. Finally decided it was time to put a stalk on him for my hunting partner to stick an arrow in him. Long story short were not as sneaky as we figured when the wind changed directions and he bolted at 40 yds. I made a running shot in the pump station.  He rolled through the jack pines back to his feet where he swapped directions and presented a 50ish yard broad side shot which I executed breaking both front shoulders. To my surprise he stood up facing us in not so good of shape. I finished the job with a final shot that broke his spine.

16' Deer

After hunting muleys throughout archery, muzzle loader, and all of rifle with nothing of interest showing up on countless trips ; I opted out the day after muley closed and told myself I'd shoot the first basket rack or bigger whitetail that come along. Right at dark he showed up and presented a perfect 460 yd broad side shot. 1 and done. He was tipping over in the cross hairs before the bullet report come back.

16' Elk

After a few days of rough hunting I slept in and decided to make my way up to some open ridge tops to glass. Spotted a spike,12 cows & calves, and a 5x6 in the 8" of fresh snow. 2 hours later I was layed out in a bench across from them. Spike and the 5x6 bedded below the cows. Sadly in a spike only units I had to make the best of the situation with a 681 yd shot once he stood up. He rolled approximately 400 yds down the canyon. Spent the rest of the day packing him out.

16' Cougar

A buddy of mine called stating that he had seen a cat in his driveway around 1 am dragging a deer into the brush. After 2 ten hours or better days sitting in the snow half frozen he showed back up in the daylight to feed. 22 yds with a 25-06 and the rest is history.
