If the regs don't change, where and when do you plan to hunt your bear?
What's your weapon of choice?
And are you looking for a trophy or something for table fare?
I already have a guide booked for August for 4 days, Oly Pen. I'm planning on using a 358 winchester, Ruger Hawkeye, or maybe my .444 marlin. And, I'm hoping to get a 6 foot or better bear.
I'm considering another trip to Alaska this year, and might try for bear in Prince William Sound or on the Kenai Pen...depending on costs and time.
-
i may go yote hunting in national forest this year in august......
-
:chuckle: My only plan this year is to actually kill one! :)
-
Im not going to have to worry about the general season after I draw my Spring tag..The 345 pounder i slap my tag on will be enough for the year!!! And oh the rug is gonna look good!!! :chuckle:
-
I will be hunting private ground mostly. August through the end of season on the west side. This season I will be trying more predator calling techniques rather than spot and stalk.
Table fare for me. Bear hams are some of the best eating I have had.

take the .444 or the .45-70 and go set the new greens in the clearcuts where I saw multiple bears LAST spring when i didnt get drawn. Might try calling if I dont see what I expect to see.
-
Change or no change to the bear regs, I'm hunting spring and fall bear in ID, over bait mostly, some spot and stalk and some calling. I'm looking for a 6+ footer or a really nice color phase.
-
I have some spots up around Concrete I want to give a try. :hunter:
-
Good point on the color phase! I don't have my 08 rug back yet, but I think if I got a substantially different color phase I'd be inclined to get another rug made.
...if I'm lucky.
-
I have a really nice 6 footer from the Peace River area that has amazing claws and fur that is a red cinnimom, just a beautiful bear I took with my bow a few years ago.
-
kapowsin has a lot of colors, thats where Ill be hope I get drawn
-
My goal is to actually go bear hunting.
-
Kill one and eat it.
-
I'm planning on getting a Spring Permit too, but if I don't, my goal is to get one bigger than last year.
-
Kill one and eat it.
:yeah:
-
Hopefully a spring bear permit in Kapowsin, if not :dunno:
-
i'll hunt hard up in kapowsin like always, but i got me a honey hole over east that i'll hit in September when the berry's are out
-
Try to get a close picture of one without being eatin
-
You can bait in ID? Do they sell tags over the counter?
I've never shot a bear. Always wanted to do it at least once...

Yes and Yes.
-
Don't have any plans right now.
-
Shoot one with my bow and maybe one with a shotgun. I am ready for a rug and a mount.
-
I'm saving my points for next year, should be able to draw. Will have 5 points for next year's draw. I have a couple of spots in mind that I will try the first week of August (private land.) Will be trying to call one in. If I get a chance to go in September it will be in the Teanaway GMU.
But I want to spend much of my time in September scouting elk for the early muzzleloader hunt, and that will be near home, so I don't see myself doing a lot of bear hunting in September either. If only they would drop the proposal to close public lands in August, I'd have so many more places to hunt. :bash:
-
Spring in ID. spot and stock
Here I'm not sure yet, I'm waiting to see the new regs. before buying a license and tags.
-
I picked up a permit to the kapowsin area this year . i will put in for the spring hunt as well.i have not been in there before so i am going to have to put in some hrs. scouting and learn the area.i think 300 bucks is a little steep for the permit in there but i will see what i can find. i live 5 min. from the buckley gate so i will look there fist.
-
Kill as many with my family as legally possible. Starting Aug 1st, till the end...
Tikka .300 wsm for me...however, this year I would like to get one with a bow. I am also looking for a big boy...so I will try to be choosy.
Hunting range for me is from Issaquah, north to Baker, east to clockum, NE to Mazama/twisp...and anywhere there between.
-
Same as turkey season. Put a tracking device on boneaddicts truck and hope he is using his bow. :chuckle:
-
Find one and shoot it.
-
Find one and shoot it.
if you can get quads......
-
I am putting in for spring bear this year for the blues. Never done that before, but looking forward to it if I get drawn.
My plan is to get my boy a bear. He turned 10 this week, got his first buck last year. We bear hunted this fall but didn't connect. I would really like to get him his first bear this year. Gonna put a little more time into it than we did last year. We have about 4 bear running around our elk camp and they need to be thinned out. :hunter:
-
;) I am ready to hunt in Idaho for BEAR! Wolves better not Steal my dogs! >:( I hope to catch some DANG nice Bear FINGERCROSS...

I have one personally, and my cousin-in-law lets me borrow his whenever I want.

PNW Kurt:
And, I'm hoping to get a 6 foot or better bear.
Since I have a slightly better than 6' Bear already, I won't shoot one unless I figure it's considerably larger. But my 14yr old (will be 15 by season opener), really wants to go Bear hunting in the back country. I figure we'll have a few scouting trips as day hikes then some overnighters roughing it with backpack and bivey sack. I tend to look for Bear above the treeline when the Blueberries are ripe. This are a couple clearcuts we'll take a look at, and I know of a place where the huckleberries are pretty good. We'll take a peak there too.

Hoyt who are you going with on the Quinault?
-
Well well well, I'm going to Idaho this year. i have a friend who has 8 hounds!!! :IBCOOL: i finally got drawn for the nonresident hound hunter permit. its been a few years in the making but its finally my time! i can either take one this spring or in the fall or both if I'm up to it! I'm still trying to figure out what i want to take it with. i have a lot of options, but considering i have never taken a black bear i want to make it special!
-
Very cool, I know two other great guys that drew ID this year. Not me though! :'(
-
WA - Hopefully a Spring tag. Will hunt Fall bear on private land in the Blues. Might try to head over to the west side, time permitting. Probably rifle.
ID - Spring and Fall, hounds and bait, Archery.
Looking for a black pumpkin head! I've been blessed with the color phase varieties, but have only killed a 5 1/2' blackie.
Good luck, be sure to post pics
-
Got a big color phased one located. Might have to coax him onto private land though. ;) That is if I don't get lucky and draw a spring tag with max points. LOL
-
Re: What are your plans for 2009 bear?
To waste hundreds of dollars in gas. Countless hours, and come home empty handed. Assuming I don't get a spring bear tag. If I get drawn for that again I feel pretty confident. That was a real thrill coming face to face at about 15 feet with the bear I got this spring.
-
hopefully run into the bigboy i missed in 418 last year
-
My goal is to take 1 with a gun i inherited from my grandpa when he passed away and hopefully get my son on his first bear.
-
sshhhh Im praying,Ive got 5 points for the spring bear kapowsin
-
I plan on going right back into the wilderness and hauling one out on my back again. I like the high country and look forward to having an opportunity at taking one with my stick bow if the bear arrives on the scene and cooperates. I am fairly certain Mr. Bear will be on the scene but whether or not I can get close without being detected is another matter.
-
I plan on following Ray....if I can get in shape. :IBCOOL:
-
Hunt cle'elum for the first week then seek revenge on the big bear i missed last year on the west side.
-

Maybe in Mason County?
I would be up for it. Could be fun.
-
yes that would be a great spot. Rick
-
I'm going to drive up Lake Chelan and shoot one out of the boat. If I'm lucky it will roll down into the water where I can pick it up... :brew:
-
400 pound color phase with a bow. Don't think Im asking to much. :chuckle:
-
My goal is to get D-Man a lot bigger bear than he got last year, get my little bro (alecvg) his first, and get my buddy his first (since we shared the kill on my first but I got to keep the hide.) For myself, I want to take one with my rifle in one of the two or three new spots I have found in 418, but I want the one I take with my rifle to be the second bear on any of the trips mentioned above. After that I hope to record my first bear kill with my second bear tag. So yeah, I want to be along for 5 bears this year to beat out my 4 bears I was along for last year. And of course, all of this will take place in 418.
-
I am going on my guided 3 day hunt with Tonymoe up in the Goat Rocks. We are just waiting to see when opening weekend is going to be.
-
Tonymoe knows that area well. You should have good luck if Tony is with you.
-
I plan on following Ray....if I can get in shape. :IBCOOL:

The wife and I are heading to Prince of Wales Island early June for a DIY spring hunt with her dad.
Come August, we'll hunt them in our normal haunts on the East side.

Watching me suck air? lol
-
Well me and the da stump both got our Spring bear special apps in today, nothing like waiting until the last minute. :chuckle: I have two points so I don't expect much but there is still a chance.
I'm 27 and my dad still spoils the crap out of me, he asked me if I was going to buy all my stuff in time to put my app in for spring bear and I told him I couldn't afford it this month. So he goes and buys all my licences for me. Then tells me don't worry about it keep saving for your MT antelope hunt.

It's either that or sucking mosquitoes. :chuckle:

I've got an Oregon spring bear permit that starts here in two weeks. My wife has one too. So, I plan on getting 2 spring bears in Oregon. Then I will probably kill one in August.

Time to restring the bow and tune it up! :IBCOOL:
