Looking for my first spotting scope. What does everyone suggest? I don't want anything super heavy but needs to be powerful. Using for range and backpacking/spotting from the truck. I want to get one of those little hand clicker things to barely move the scope around and glass not sure what they are called

The gold ring 20-40 x 60 is a pretty damn good compact spotter.

What's your budget?

The Gold Rings are great spotters, the China made stuff I'd pass on.

It is packable. Most of the others in it's class are heavier. Ours is non-HD, 30 years old and it still holds up well when compared to other spotting scopes.

No particular budget but I want light as possible. They sell them in a kit with a tripod and stuff but I'm not sure if you would be better off buying an aftermarket one. Drew this wenaha tag and I have a good pair of binoculars but wanted something with some more power

I'm not aware they make a 20-40x60 Gold Ring. :dunno:
Are you thinking of the 12-40x60? If so it's a nice optic and relatively compact for a 60mm scope.

Yes, that is what I was referencing.
