well, been working over my gear for this season. drew a spring bear tag, so i had to get moving on it. ive made a few changes lately, but overall pretty happy with my kit. i put together a spreadsheet for the upcoming hunt, so thought id share and discuss. :fire.:

Dang a Z-Lite mat really weighs 13oz?! I honestly had no clue they were that heavy

Heating your cooking water over a fire or am I just not seeing the stove?

my partner and i are splitting gear, to help offset half a ton of rifle. he will be carrying jetboil, tent, coffee, flat tarp, water filter, etc

The ounce counter in you is freaking out about that rifle, aren't you...

Looking forward to your hunt, we will be a couple weeks behind you. Don't forget to take a bear selfie!

I've shaved ounces to the point that any available weight reduction costs big money... but the 2oz whiskey ration per day remains untouched after all these years 😂

Curious about your thoughts/would you buy again on the tigoat bivy and quilt. Is the quilt down? Cozy?
Thinking about dropping the bomb-proof but heavy event bivy this year for an ultralight, but that means no more getting by with a tiny tarp anymore.
-
I had bearpawwilderness build me a custom cuben bivy 30x80 thats 6-8 ounces. I run an ee 20* extra wide long quilt in it and so far I love the setup. I'll be testing it again in the Backcountry of Idaho chasing bears and am 100 percent confident in the coziness and greatness of the setup.
-
I love the quilt, I don't even own sleeping bags anymore. It's so comfortable and versatile, and I was super leery to switch, coming from a WM bag.
I'd be careful with a full cuben bivy, even with breathable top I end up with toebox condensation often. If buying again I see no reason to spend extra for ti goat over borah

With a breathable or mesh top ( mine is both) I don't see how the bottom would dictate condensation or not, wether it's cuben, silnylon, etc. Cuben is 100 percent waterproof so it won't allow any ground moisture to seep through, warm with your body temp and then condense, so any (most) condensation in a cuben bivy will be from your body moisture and then you just will be relying on your quilt/bag and the top breathable (hopefully) layer of the bivy to release the moisture. That's my understanding of it all, which could be completely wrong.

correct, i missed you had breathable top. thought it was full cuben.
i rarely zip my bivy past my waist, and the footbox still has trouble with moving my body moisture out

Gotcha, a full cuben bivy would be horrible!! :chuckle:
I do the same and leave the top, from head to waist uncovered unless the bugs are out.
My foot box has a tie off that allows me to pull the bivy up, tie to a trekking/tarp pole and keeps the top of the bivy up off my feet and create a nice vapor barrier down there. I haven't been in the bivy much at all yet but the few times I have I haven't noticed any condensation down there. Next time you're in yours see if you can rig it up off of you bag at the footbox and see if there is a difference.

Not enough whiskey.

for the most part, ive quit running the bivy, and gone back to good old freestanding tent, but the last 3 years on this hunt weve gotten lots of rain and snow, so we figured the extra space in the sawtooth will be worth it

Your making me want to leave earlier for my hunt, nice looking list. Don't forget to spray down your gear with permithin.

Whats the lil green bottles? 2 sleeping pads - Xped?
-
How much of that will have blood spattered on it in the next couple days??

You expecting one of them to cut a finger or something?
-
I knew I was the only one who has to clean blood off his gear after packing an animal.... :bash:
-
I'm surprised you don't dehydrate your own meals.

i dont have time for that!Whats the lil green bottles? 2 sleeping pads - Xped?
i like having a foam around camp and glassing/napping. double pads for sleeping does not suck. the exped is the synmat winterlite L/W. the little bottle are wine
