Title: adreniline rush?
Post by: AceInTheWild on February 20, 2009, 08:54:18 PM: ive never hunted with a bow but i have heard that it is by far a bigger rush in the field then hunting with anything else. is there any truth to this. im not a yuppie that just thinks i can strap up a shooting glove and go bow hunting. i know it takes practice and tons of time and work to get a shot with sucess. but i know that 90 percent of the time its a failure. im jst wondering is that effort and work really worth it.

Post by: bow-n-head on February 21, 2009, 08:11:26 AM: Bow hunting can be frustrating at times, you have to expect that. But when it all comes together it is amazing. You don't even have to shoot something to have an amazing time. Two years ago I had an elk walk right up to me. I could have extended my finger out and touched her. That was as memorable as the day I shot my bull that year. I have been within 10 yards of elk so many times, I still shake like a leaf every time it happens. It's extremely addictive. Must be the adrenalin rush. I got none of that last year when I shot my bull with my rifle, don't get me wrong it was fun, and I'll do it again if I don't get one with my bow. Elk are good eating. When you take up bowhunting, don't get discouraged if you don't get something right away, when you do there's nothing like it. I am usually by myself, so this is the best picture I have of this bull. Shot him at 8 steps just after he bugled, I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

Post by: blindpig on February 25, 2009, 01:21:33 PM: Its by far better than a rifle. There is so much to it that any one thing can mess you up and when they all come together it is awesome. Start by shooting a grouse or rabbit and ask yourself if it wasn't better than shooting it with a shotgun. You will be hooked.

I have killed a couple of bears at 15 yards with a rifle and 5 with my bow at the same distance and it can't even compare. Same with whitetails, when you can clearly see their eyelashes it is one heck of a high. I like hunting with both, but nothing compares to being in 20 yards or less with animals that have no clue your there and you have to be able to draw and concentrate on a spot. Not even close in my not so humble opinion.

I'm relatively new to the site - this is the first time I've posted something. I saw the post about an adrenaline rush when hunting with archery equipment and wanted to reply.

It's unbelievable! I took up archery hunting a couple of years ago after many years of rifle hunting with pretty good success. I wanted a "different" challenge (I'm not saying that rifle hunting doesn't have it's own challenges.)

Anyway, after blowing about a millions stalks on deer/elk I finally managed to shoot a small 4 point and I can say that I was FAR more excited about that than any of the larger deer that I've shot with a rifle - at least for a long time. I felt like a kid again. Maybe it's the difficulty of pulling it off, the many times of getting really close to animals, either with the intent to shoot or not. Not sure, anyway a huge rush.

Try it, you'll have fun.
