Title: Looking at new rifle stocks
Post by: Bofire on April 11, 2017, 07:42:02 PM: I have an old rifle and am looking at new stock for it. Mcmillan makes one, drop in complete for about $500.00 Bell and Carlson all set up is about $300.00. HS Precisio does not make one, Manners stocks were not impressive.
Any input??

There may be better but not for the money. That said I have a Bell & Carlson on my Weatherby Vanguard that I picked up on eBay for around $175, and I've been happy with it.

If you are shooting prone watchout for any heel drop.

I went with Manners Eh1 as I needed high comb. Adjustable game scout would be good.

I have a couple B&C that have held up for 25 years.

Post by: Bofire on April 11, 2017, 08:25:30 PM: McMillan and B&C Medalist both come "drop in" for my gun. The B&C has an aluminum bedding block, the McMillan has standard bedded in recoil lug. Hunter sporter type stocks, no vertical hand grip or fat fore arms. just $200.00 difference in price.

The make stocks for a lot of rifles types. I have four and really like them. One on a Winchester, one on a Remington, one on a Mouser and one on a Ruger.

Yes x2.
I have McMillan's , HS Precision's , Manners and a B&C. The B&C does not compare to any of the others.

Some are great for general purpose hunting while others are best suited for range and target use. It shoots like crazy but more, its got Karma. All my biggest Bulls, Bucks and Bear, tons of coyotes have fallen to this rifle, Its been to Canada, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Wyoming and Colorado. Kills everything I point it at.
That said I have always disliked the stock, I had it bedded twice ( shoots real well now) but it is ugly and very flexible and noisy.
So I think I'll buy the McMillan and see what I can do with this Old Girl.

I don't really think the McMillans are that much better than the B&C in most applications. I can't think of a single gun I've owned would have shot better if it had been in a McMillan stock. If the McMillan has a specific feature or style that the B&C doesn't then it may be better, but if you can find a B&C that you like I'd go for it and never look back.
