Good luck to you on a great bear and a good hunt.

Good luck to you on a great bear and a good hunt.
Thanks man. Did you draw a spring tag? If you did good luck to you. First time in the Wenaha/Blues. I'll be staying in Lewiston tonight if anyone is around.
-
Good luck Anthony, how long you staying?

Thanks! I think 4 days. We'll see how everything is with the snow
Using it as a mini vacation/scouting/hunting trip. Great place to eat right across the street with cold beers. Can't beat that!

Passed on about a 250 pound bear opening day

Wow, that is a big bear here in WA, the average bear is 140 to 165.
-
Found some sign on the opener. No bears. I'll keep looking though.

TAG!

I know that's a good bear for Washington, but I know what kind of bears are in this area Im hunting. As for lord grizzly and Idaho guy think what you want.
-
You certainly won't kill a toad if you shoot a smaller bear first!! I hope you smack a big boy!!!
-
Limbhangerslayer sent me a photo of the bear. I can't post it until I get home, but it IS a dandy bear. I probably would have popped it myself, Kudos to him for holding out for a bruiser!
-
My eyes are calibrated to only see 300+ lb bears. :chuckle:
-
Lots of area to hunt already. Put a lot of miles on yesterday. Area I was hunting was further down than I expected. High water levels for river crossings. Managed to find a few areas to cross. Hiked in 5 hours and out 5 hours. Had to have been 12-15 miles. Amazing country. Saw one little blonde bear. Bunch of winter kill. Probably 4 elk one deer. Had a blast. Super stoked for warmer weather and snow melt up high.
-
-
That had to be 23-28 miles if it took 5 hrs both ways :chuckle:
-

still haven't mastered the trick of getting these bears to stand on the bathroom scale that every other guy on the internet seems to know. maybe one day. im just surprised this one was under 300, never seen one smaller than that online...
I shot a bear last spring and a buck that scored 187 and was just over 30"s wide last fall and decided not to put a picture on here because of this.
I'm impressed that you guys are able to field judge a bear by a post on an internet forum that doesn't even have a photo attached
JM I get the annoying trolls on here but who really cares what they have to say post your pics for 99% of us who are going to drool over a 187" buck!
-

Well I was slowly hunting my way along the trail it might have been less but my body definitely felt like it was put through the ringer
-
Big bears and little bears...post them up. Negative or trolling comments will be dealt with swiftly!
Shoot em and post em!

sorry my comment wasn't directed at you. You only said a 250 pound bear which make me believe you probably did pass on a nice bear. I just think its funny every time someone misses or just sees a bear in Idaho its always "at least a 300 pounder" Hope you get a huge one and post it up here. I will try to not derail the thread again! haha

My 10 year old son and I did 3 days this past weekend and had a great time. The roads are horrific in the Huckleberry unit, we wound up doing a lot of hiking and had a tough time making good use of our time because the few points and peaks with any fresh growth were very isolated. The trip was amazing though, getting that much time with just my young son and I was priceless. We camped in various spots in a 2 man tent, had lots of ice on the tent, froze at night, got blown off the mountain with hail and snow, and didn't see any bears. And... he didn't complain once the entire trip. Oh yea, we cooked "mountain man nachos" in the cast iron skillet over the fire. We burned the heck out of the chips and cheese but he didn't care. He also pulled a #dudeperfect on the new world record ground squirrel haha. Also, he wanted to get burgers at an "old fashioned" place on our way home. No problem!
We found where one bear had been out of the den, feeding in a very small isolated area. That was the one bit of sign we found but it was in such a tough spot we couldn't wait on that point till dark without freezing thanks to the wind.
Hopefully we connect in a month when we get back up there.

AWESOME pics fly. Very cool taking the boy out. Looks like a blast glad you guys had fun. I think I'll be hunting spring bear every year. Going to Idaho next year if I don't draw blues with 1 point.

Duckslayer the hike out of that hole is more than alot of guys can handle.. Beautiful country this time of year. THats a tough spot to day hunt. Spend a couple nights down in there and your bear will show up. Hate to see that winterkill in there. Enjoy your hunt
-
Love those Edna's burgers

No I didn't even get to put in. I started a new job as a juvenile corrections officer and I will have week of vacation right around fall bear opener, so I will use 4 days for bear(plus my 2 off) and the other 3(plus my two off) for deer season.
-
Must be a slow year for the bear with the late spring? When does it become more active with bear movement. Thought I'd have seen a few bear on here by now. I'm trying to save my time and money till later in the season but it's hard with a tag open. This rain is killing me.

Well three trips into the Skagit areas so far. No sign of any bear activity yet. Many of the roads still have trees down and branches over them when you come in off of hwy 9. Hoping for things to get better.

I'm heading to Sherman unit this Wednesday for 5 nights., weather reports are looking good! Hopefully I'll have a bear pic to post this time next week!
-
Just coming back from a couple more days of bear hunting. Saw one sow with twins. A decent size bear too late to go after and another sow with a single cub. Plus we saw a wolf chasing a cow elk and my buddy found a small moose shed
-
Good luck StringShot! Been curious how conditions are over there. Partner and i drew tags, not heading over until Memorial weekend though. Hope you have a good hunt and let us know how it goes!

Sadly I didn't draw a spring tag this year, but bears are moving around out on the coast. Saw this guy a few days ago, clear sunny day around 2:00 pm.
-
There's a STUD bear!!

I have a tag for the coast. What unit was that bear in? I've been waiting to go, already done some day trips. But it looks like it's time.

I just need him to message me the gps cords of him and hope it's in my unit. :chuckle:

That bear was close to Copalis but not quite there haha. This was the third bear I saw that day. Just from experience the bears out here love warm and sunny afternoons. :twocents:
-
Not my unit I'm way south. Good to know they are moving. Waiting for sun and gonna hit it hard.
-
I have been hitting Copalis pretty hard. Haven't seen anything yet. Heading out again next week. Maybe then.
-
Activity should pick up a bunch by then. With some warm weather some tags will be getting punched.

Nice bear high country, I'm going for my spring bear tag for 4 days next weekend. Hope I can get one down just like yours. Congrats
-
BIG chocolate boar tonight at 875. No chance to stock him he dipped into the thick stuff fast. Sow and cubs last two nights in a row. Hunting hard lots of glassing. Ran into a few other Huntwa guys today off the road. Good guys. Tomorrow hoping to get back on the big boy we saw. If we were in our spot we were in last night would have killed him today. Wrong place wrong time. Did here a sow calling to her cubs and got to watch them tonight. Good times
-
@high country great pics I enjoyed your write up! Hope I get to share by Friday.
-
Remember to turn off your location setting on your phone before posting pics, no need to give up that spot. You guys will get one, we will be there Wednesday night.
-
Finally killed a big boar Saturday night. 28th adult bear seen this season in 15 days of hunting.
Surely you can spare a picture .....

Dropped a bear yesterday morning. Buddy in the middle spotted it so he got the shot. 230yds, 34 degree angle down a washout in a blueberry patch. Ran 20yds and flopped. First bear for any of us to be a part of and we had a great time. The pack out and few miles back to the truck wasn't the most fun but it's all part of the experience. Already planning the next hunt, we've got more tags to fill!
-
Congrats Quicksilver! Looks like a blast

My small boar from September 3rd. My smallest bear ever but most likely will be the best eating one! I missed a lot bigger one 3.5 hours earlier in the day. Just happy I get to eat bear meat and not my tag. ALL GLORY TO GOD!👍😀

We did really well on opening week up in the Okanogan. 3 bears for our group of 6...1 stuck at 17 yds, 2 was shot at 50 yards with Win .375, 3 was shot at 70 yds with a hand cannon .460 mag. All taken on private land from tree stands.

Nice bear. Congratulations.

Here's my first Bear, killed on Nov 5th while Elk hunting in the 574. Cut his tracks and shot him five minutes later. I didn't get any great photos with him as my son is a very horrible photographer...lol. Nose to tail he is 5' 5". He must have been just fighting as he had several fresh cuts on his snout and a gash 2" long and 1/2" deep on his chest.
-
Nice, should have a nice hide this time of year
-
Beautiful bear, Jason!
