And simmer at the lowest setting. Not to mention cooking back strap and tenderloin right at the field dressing site in the back country. The 10" JetBoil frying pan, along with utensils are super light. The frying pan has a heat ring on the bttom that is super functional for concentrating heat and blocking wind. I carry both in my pack, the Mighty Mo along with the JetBoil canister cooking system has me covered A through Z!

Make sure you get the pot or pan holder if you have a regular jetboil. It's cheap and needed to hold the pan flat.This! We didn't realize one was needed until we were 7 miles into the backcountry last year. We stacked rocks around the jetboil to hold the frying pan in place, but ended up melting the plastic ring around the burner.

Many of the cannisters have some sort of marking system on them, that will give a estimate of fuel left. Usually its a simple float test. This isnt real accurate, but I use it when I am confident that the fuel will exceed my use requirements.
Another thing to consider if packing extra canisters is refilling them, g works makes a product that will top off your cannisters so you can always have a full one and leave those extra half empty deadweight at the truck.

The most accurate way is to weigh the cannister. Obviously this requires a scale and some math and isn't to feasible in the backcountry. But is good to know and can give you a well educated guess as to what to expect from an individual cannister based on your use.I will look into the float trick, thanks. I mark my canister with run times. 20 minutes = IIII. The french press was the one accessory i added to my original jetboil.

I'm too the point where I'm bringing 3 canisters that I feel are low.Just put the canister on the fridge for a few minutes. Pull it out and wait for it to sweat to the fill line.

There probably similar. I think the jet boil just put a good backpacking stove / cup together and made it more available to the hunter crowd. Most hikers have always used the stoves. But the hunter hasn't really until recent. So it's just your basic hiking stove.
I don't consider the jetboil a hiking stove. The Jetboil a camping stove and road hunting/road camping stove yes but not hiking. I have and use the jetboil for such.
Hiking stove imo is the msr pocket rocket with the small fuel canister, folding spork, foil; all nicely packed and secured in the titanium cup.
