Starts tomorrow, kinda, driving most the day tomorrow and will be at it Thursday -next Tuesday. I hunt spring bear with my dad so I can't be one of those animal die hards that hike 10 miles in! But we have had a really good success rate in the past years, one year killing 2 bears in one day, 2 years ago I killed my best bear. I absolutely love spring bear, next to elk hunting it's my favorite hunt. Look forward to being in Gods country and getting away from work , traffic and responsibilities! Will post picks along the way if I can. First photo is the gear just sprayed down with permithin, second is our home for the week.

Good luck Trophy. I've been wondering when this thread was gonna pop up. I can't wait to see what you drum up. It's a great year and you should hit the green up and onions just perfectly. Plus, this warm up we are having should really get them moving. I predict you'll see multiple bears each day.

Thanks a ton man, I sure hope your right. It's so hard to wait so long to go but waiting seems to work out. There have been a couple serious boars killed this year, hopefully there is a few more out there. Thanks again!
-
I've had those spring tags 4 times and been on many other spring hunts. I guarantee the best time to hunt is the last two weeks in May. As long as the calves haven't dropped (which they haven't), it'll be epic.
A good buddy had a tag last year and we saw 9 bears the first day. Good stuff.
-
Looks like you're in for an awesome adventure!
good luck!
-
good choice on the permithin. just got back for a regroup and will head back over for the rest of the season in a couple of days. The ticks were terrible , but the hunting is just starting to heat up. the next couple of weeks should be red hot. good luck!

Good luck man, get your dad one this year! My old man will be over there Thursday, camping at three forks. Swing in and have a beer. I'm headed to the Oregon side of the wenaha Friday morning until Tuesday hoping to fill my spring tag. Heard it's getting good!
-
Boots are sprayed - hope that permitherin doesn't mess with the leather. Nasty groin bitin lil buggers - should be packin bear this weekend with some luck.
-
Good luck guys
-
Never thought about the permithin affecting the leather, I guess we'll find out! Been hearing the ticks are bad, hate those buggers. Sounds like the wolves are also around. Hey 7-mag if your driving through Troy stop by and grab a beer, good luck on your hunt! Magnum, you going to be in the area hunting too? Stop by if so, and good luck. Thanks guys, just need to get through 4 hours of work today!
-
Good luck bud

Good seeing you tonight man! Hope you guys smack one. We've been pulling ticks off us every single day. Tagging along.....
-
First morning just as we get above the trees, bear, chocolate medium size. But 553 yards in the wrong unit, I try to call, my worst version of a wounded rabbit, but he just wanders off. Hoping to catch him crossing the road on our side! Nice seeing you guys Anthony , kill one today!

Heaven!

if i went we would be a pair! pair of idiots going to bottom! he wouldn't kill one with me because he would avoid the good spots because he has eyes with him ;)
-
Too hot! 72. Nothing came outa the trees. Didnt see anything today. Gonna head low to creeks tomorrow.
-
Saw this little bear about 50 yards ahead of us right on the road. He stood up and just looked at us, slowly walked away. Just saw a black colored bear 700 yards away but he was moving through the trees away from us. And just now heard a turkey as I'm typing, cool place.

One more

Love these live updates and pict's, keep them coming. Just remember the end goal.
-
That's a 2'er!!!
-
Hey magnum_willy, is that you guys in the black dodge? The guys we've seen twice?
-
Saw a decent bear for dad just before dark and way too far away.
-
Heaven!
There were a bunch of elk in those fields last week with some
Baby's calves.
-
Good to see you're on them Trophy.

Such a lie!! Don't believe these signs, sat on this tree all day! Nothing!
:chuckle:
So far nothing today except chatter on the rino, guys were looking for a bear they shot at, hope it's magnum Willy and they find it!
-
:yeah: I should have told you, I sat there for awhile myself and never saw one :dunno:
-
Why do people think bears move around more with nice weather? Nothing today and it's damn hot . Did find a small 6 point set.
-
You're in prime time right now Trophy. I see more bears from 10-4 than any other time in the spring.
-
Well, I'll trust ya! I'm up here and can see for miles.
-
Giving my poor feet a breather, screwed up and didn't bring enough water ! Won't make that mistake again.
-
What elevation are you at?
-
5,000
-
Onions still going strong?
-
That chocolate bear in the picture was digging something up on thAt hill, to be honest I'm not exactly sure what the look like ?

Really!? This is borderline crazy talk 😂😂😂😂
We've seen a few around 1. But 90% of our bears are between 5-8pm

Go to love technology , just YouTubed what a wild onion looks like. I'll check in later, phone is dying and need to save batteries for pics hopefully !
-
Bear we were watching was rolling rocks over on a wide open hillside not sure what she was looking for though
-
Trophy, they look just like this. Hell, you'll probably smell them before you see them.
-

I'd agree. I've seen and shot more bear from 1:pm-5: then any other time
-
Just let that brown bear live, had cross hairs on him at 200 yards, hoping he walks to my dad . Damn cool!!
-
Hey Trophy yea thats us. Just coming outa 9 mile hike into the creek canyon. Glad I'm notbpackin bear. Its one long hot hike today. Nothing showed. Counted 26 bulls yday evening on state land. I hear a whickey calling legs are barking!
-
Lol, same here! Hot as crap today, that bear at the end was sweet, it never went to my dad. He's heading your way!
-
We kept smelling onion, never found any though. There is another small succulent up there that smells exactly like onion too. We kept stepping on it and looking for onion until we pulled some and got the smell.
-
Well that chocolate bear didn't cross my dads path, I still don't regret passing it up. I'm not here for just any bear but just any bear would be great for my dad since he's never shot one. We have today and tomorrow to try and fill his tag, having a great time but it is hot as heck. I'm hitting the timbered canyons today hoping to chase something out for pops. Thanks for the words and info!
-
Called some turkeys in but too hot for bear.
-
No I can't prove it, but I had a wolf pup 30 yards from me today. Tried to get my phone out for a pic but he saw me and ran away. Seemed lost, was calling in a different canyon then came over to the canyon I was in. Have to say even though I hate wolves, that thing was cute as hell. No bears so far, again it's hot as heck
-
First day of our hunt that we didn't see a bear, been a blast but really slow today. Might leave Tuesday. One hour left of today.
-
You'll find them Trophy! I'd be glassing the edges of thick timbered draws. They may only be out for a bit; but one thing is for sure; they have to eat!
-
10-4, I found a draw that looks perfect, except it's going to be a real pain if I get one in it. Now way to get my dad there, might stay till Wednesday.
-
Awesome. Good luck!
-
Looking good so far. Keep at it.
-
Good Luck Trophy, we had to leave yesterday but did get to chase some turkeys around. Wow was it hot out. Hope action picks up when it cools for you. Tried to go out Pomeroy road but hit snow in a hurry. Should be one up that road you camped on at dusk if days cool off.

thanks a bunch, yeah that snow is always blocking there, It's pretty nice up that rd, especially since it looks like no one has been there. I'm in a hell of a spot today, but it's going to kill me getting one out.

How far could you get up the road, to Low Saddle Trail yet? There was some sign down the road ten days ago but couldn't drive 100 yards past the Saddle Butte road. Easy hike though.
-
The snow is melting quick but there are a couple big rocks in the road, a winch should move them.
-
Well, I really appreciate the kind words, help and encouragement, thank you guys. So we left today, I think pops was pretty tired, I am very impressed how hard he tried. When he walks 200 yards and takes a nitro pill, I know he's hurting. That fn sucks to see, as I'm sure you can imagine. But, we had an unbelievable hunt, 6 days of hunting and we saw a bear everyday except 1. Seriously, and 2 days we saw 2 bears in a day, unreal. And for me, a first, passed up a legal, 150 lb chocolate bear at 200 yards, seriously in my crosshairs with a solid rest. The damn bear never made it to my dad, what's funny is, that sum beech was standing in the road 50 yards from us yesterday as we turned the corner in my truck. Dad tried to get out and load but you know the outcome. Bears are fast! I saw my first wolf, not exactly happy about that but the first sighting is pretty cool when it's at 30 yards and it's a pup. Bigger wolf, well,,,,I wouldn't be talking about it. Great country, great views, challenging country, and time with dad that is permenatly saturated in my mind, his too. Sorry we couldn't produce a pic of success, but you guys know what's more important AND that's what's matters. Thanks for following, and thanks to those behind the scenes who sent PM's with support and information! Now let's get these draws done so we can get on to more hunting stories about family, friends and see some damn pics!!! :chuckle:
-
Pics, morel and a deep canyon I hike into and out of, it was amazing. One tree had 9 piles of bearcrap around it. Also found my first bear scull in the woods.

Sorry to hear but it was successful in other ways. Safe travels home.

what did miss marissa think about getting up that early ? Good luck..
-
She was really good about it, I was surprised.
-
The weather here sucks, rainy and foggy, can't see squat.
-
You get up high or still down south ?
-
Didn't want to drive south, quick 2 day hunt so we just went to Godman on Dayton side. Cold as hell this morning, wish I'm wall tent and stove. Beautiful morning though, sitting here watching hillsides.
-
Get em Trophy! I'm pulling for you.
-
Pretty quiet today, real quiet. We did find a pretty fresh cougar track.
-
So what is this?
-
Looks like a weather station.
-
A well deserved meal, we are done a couple hours early. The girl has sore legs! Did get to pull out a damsel in distress by teepee, she was stuck pretty good in the snow. Been a great time w the kid, great country to see and another awesome spring bear season. Passed up my first descent bear, spent time with my dad one hunt and my daughter the next, really couldn't ask for more! Thanks for the support and following along.
