Title: Our 2017 spring bear hunt.
Post by: trophyhunt on May 23, 2017, 08:59:38 PM: Starts tomorrow, kinda, driving most the day tomorrow and will be at it Thursday -next Tuesday. I hunt spring bear with my dad so I can't be one of those animal die hards that hike 10 miles in! But we have had a really good success rate in the past years, one year killing 2 bears in one day, 2 years ago I killed my best bear. I absolutely love spring bear, next to elk hunting it's my favorite hunt. Look forward to being in Gods country and getting away from work , traffic and responsibilities! Will post picks along the way if I can. First photo is the gear just sprayed down with permithin, second is our home for the week.

It's a great year and you should hit the green up and onions just perfectly. Plus, this warm up we are having should really get them moving. I predict you'll see multiple bears each day. :tup:

Thanks a ton man, I sure hope your right. It's so hard to wait so long to go but waiting seems to work out. There have been a couple serious boars killed this year, hopefully there is a few more out there. Thanks again!

Post by: Timberstalker on May 23, 2017, 09:36:58 PM: I've had those spring tags 4 times and been on many other spring hunts. I guarantee the best time to hunt is the last two weeks in May. As long as the calves haven't dropped (which they haven't), it'll be epic.

A good buddy had a tag last year and we saw 9 bears the first day. Good stuff.

The ticks were terrible , but the hunting is just starting to heat up. the next couple of weeks should be red hot. good luck!

But 553 yards in the wrong unit, I try to call, my worst version of a wounded rabbit, but he just wanders off. Hoping to catch him crossing the road on our side! Just saw a black colored bear 700 yards away but he was moving through the trees away from us. And just now heard a turkey as I'm typing, cool place.

We've seen a few around 1. But 90% of our bears are between 5-8pm

I'm not here for just any bear but just any bear would be great for my dad since he's never shot one. We have today and tomorrow to try and fill his tag, having a great time but it is hot as heck. I'm hitting the timbered canyons today hoping to chase something out for pops. Thanks for the words and info! :tup:

Seemed lost, was calling in a different canyon then came over to the canyon I was in. Have to say even though I hate wolves, that thing was cute as hell. No bears so far, again it's hot as heck

thanks a bunch, yeah that snow is always blocking there, It's pretty nice up that rd, especially since it looks like no one has been there. I'm in a hell of a spot today, but it's going to kill me getting one out.

thanks a bunch, yeah that snow is always blocking there, It's pretty nice up that rd, especially since it looks like no one has been there. I'm in a hell of a spot today, but it's going to kill me getting one out.
I have been there on a snowmobile the snow ruined my plans on thid hunt but will be in there next weekend

How far could you get up the road, to Low Saddle Trail yet? There was some sign down the road ten days ago but couldn't drive 100 yards past the Saddle Butte road. Easy hike though.

So we left today, I think pops was pretty tired, I am very impressed how hard he tried. When he walks 200 yards and takes a nitro pill, I know he's hurting. That fn sucks to see, as I'm sure you can imagine. But, we had an unbelievable hunt, 6 days of hunting and we saw a bear everyday except 1. Seriously, and 2 days we saw 2 bears in a day, unreal. And for me, a first, passed up a legal, 150 lb chocolate bear at 200 yards, seriously in my crosshairs with a solid rest. The damn bear never made it to my dad, what's funny is, that sum beech was standing in the road 50 yards from us yesterday as we turned the corner in my truck. Dad tried to get out and load but you know the outcome. Bears are fast! I saw my first wolf, not exactly happy about that but the first sighting is pretty cool when it's at 30 yards and it's a pup. Bigger wolf, well,,,,I wouldn't be talking about it. Great country, great views, challenging country, and time with dad that is permenatly saturated in my mind, his too. Sorry we couldn't produce a pic of success, but you guys know what's more important AND that's what's matters. Thanks for following, and thanks to those behind the scenes who sent PM's with support and information! Now let's get these draws done so we can get on to more hunting stories about family, friends and see some damn pics!!! :chuckle:

honestly the day I went to that canyon I wanted to strip down to my shorts and sit in the creek. Sorry for the image :chuckle: With the heat my feet were on fire!

Did get to pull out a damsel in distress by teepee, she was stuck pretty good in the snow. Been a great time w the kid, great country to see and another awesome spring bear season. Passed up my first descent bear, spent time with my dad one hunt and my daughter the next, really couldn't ask for more! Thanks for the support and following along.
