Curious, what is the fewest points you have known someone to draw a WA goat or sheep tag with? Recent history, the last ten years or so.
I wonder how often someone miracles one out of their azz with only 1 or 2 points.
-
A member on here bought one raffle ticket and drew 1 of the ram raffle tags last year.
-
Nice! Somebody has to get drawn!
-
My son drew Mt goat with 3 points a few years ago....... and then got his points restored due to a wdfw ruling.
-
@GurrCentral, any comments :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I drew a goat tag in 1995 with 0 points.... but it took about 20 years of applying. (this was before points)
-
I drew a permit in 1973 before the points system 1st and only year I applied. Goat
-
A buddy of mine drew a Clemens Mtn sheep tag with 3 points.
-
My son drew a 49 Degrees North Moose Tag when he was 11. Not the youth tag. He had two points. I have 20 points for the OIL tags and have never drawn.
-
Father in law drew a good sheep tag with 5pts. About 5 yrs ago.
-
@GurrCentral, any comments :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Once upon a time a 17yr old young man drew a coveted WA sheep tag with 3 points.....he is still grateful for all of the knowledge and help he acquired from a few guys crazy about bighorns! At the top of that list is some yahoo who goes by the name of DOUBLELUNG!! HAHA
-
Aaron drew with 6 points and scored on the current World Record Cali.

Nice!
I feel for the fellas with tons of points that don't get drawn year after year, but it's pretty damn cool to have a shot just starting to get in. I'd not put in if there wasn't any chance at all for 15+ years.
-
Depends on what you call a chance....

Looking at that list makes me love Idaho's system that much more!
That being said my dad was fortunant last year to draw goat with far less than max points.
-
Seems like not too long ago somebody drew lincoln cliffs with 1 point. Like 4-5 yrs back

Yeah, but if you have 20+ points you almost have a 1% chance of drawing. Start putting in at age 15 you will have 20 points by age 35. If you haven't drawn by then, by the time you are 85 you would have had a 50% chance of drawing a tag - of course assuming no point creep. Add in point creep and you are probably at 15%.
They should just run a traditional lottery for OIL tags.

What is the story on this dan-o
-
I think if they kept the app fee the same but had to front the 300+ dollars or so for the tag if drawn and get a refund it would drop applicants but wdfw would lose a bunch of money so wont ever happen... I have 20 points at age 29 and most likely will never draw any oil permit before my hunting career is over, but i do like the fact everyone has a chance.

At your age and your points, I am pretty confident you will at least draw 1 OIL tag before you're too old to hunt, whatever age that is😆

Are there different categories for OIL sheep and goat?

one of my hunting buddies drew mountain goat with 5 points in 2016

Mountain goat.
My dad and I drew as partners with Zero points.
Of course back then there were no points.
Perhaps those were the good old days of WA hunting.
Around 85' I think.

900 goat tags. :yike:
Last year there were 27 (including 6 "conflict reduction" tags).

My dad drew goat rocks with only 2 points and shot a real nice billy about 15 years ago. He's patiently waiting for his sheep tag next:)
-
I drew a goat tag in 1997 first year I ever put in for it. I took a 9 7/8 billy out of the Smith Creek unit, he'd make Boone and Crockett honorable mention we rough scored him very conservatively, he was a yellow tinged old billy goat. It was a really great hunt, I ended up having to rope up and rope him as well to keep us both from going over because we were both on the side of a cliff.
The next year they went to the point system and made it a OIL tag and every year since then I have put in for another goat tag.
-
I drew my goat tag this year with 9 points. Please don't punch me.
