Title: Conconully Area

Anyone have experience with wolves while hunting and/or backpacking in the Conconully area towards north?
Thinking about venturing out for some backpacking trips until deer season.

Seen what appeared to be wolf track up around old baldy pass a couple years ago but I have never seen any or heard any.  I am sure they are around there.

I saw one, two deer seasons ago heading towards baldy pass. Several years before that I saw tracks on Muckmuck mountain.

Yes wolves up there, but don't let that slow you down.  A good sidearm should scare them away.

Yeah, we saw several fresh wolf tracks up in that area last year.

Thanks for the input...there were wolves in MT when lived there but never heard them.
I don't really worry...but have no experience around them...a large pack might be something...regardless of sidearm?
I've heard various ideas.
I have the idea...like in MT...that there are many more than the official numbers given.
I was out in the Old Baldy area overnight Monday...still some snow on road...saw a Bobcat...(for about five seconds) enjoyed that.

I heard a bunch of howling that wasnt coyotes last October around Twin Peaks.  I would love to back pack in the Twenty and Thirty Mile drainages but getting time to do it and my age hold me back.

My wife and I saw our first wolf just outside of Conconully on the main highway heading back towards Omak. It crossed the highway and headed out into the cattle pasture (calves). This was on New Years Day 2017.

My father in law grooms the snowmobile trails up around Baldy etc. He saw one about 6 months ago standing off the trail in the snow. They are around...

Last year saw wolf tracks near sugar loaf. Also saw some at Conger creek. They are definitely in the area and you will hear them at night.

I wouldn't stop doing what you love. Just be prepared and aware.
