Well got a call today from IDFG, I drew the super hunt tag for deer in any unit open in the state of Idaho. And as if that wasn't good enough, it's the cheapest out of state hunt ever at under 200 bucks, just have to pay for out of state hunting license and archery permit as the tag is free. Now to come up with and execute a good hunt plan.
-
Congrats - good luck!!!
-
Tag. Congrats and keep us updated
-
Don't waste your money on the archery permit. Grab your rifle come over in November and hunt 45.

45 closes Oct 31st

My bad jj I did get my dates mixed up. Never drawing that tag you don't look at the dates every year
-
I've been there once or twice.
The archery hunt in 44 or 45 would be conducive to shooting a giant
-
Congrats how many tickets did you buy?
-
The super hunt tag is any hunt. That includes draws. I don't know if you guys understand just what this tag is
That's it any deer season open including controlled hunts.

Awesome there is always a chance and its great to see that a guy can get lucky :IBCOOL:
-
Buddy killed a 240 velvet buck with his bow a few years back in there. I'd still hunt the rifle season. All those big ones are still in there October
-
Wow, pulled it with one ticket. I bought a lot more than that. Maybe they'll call tomorrow....

That's awesome, Congrats  :IBCOOL:

Funny thing is it was just an after thought purchase of 1 deer, 1 elk and 1 antelope. I bought a hell of a lot more moose tickets. I just figure when it comes to stuff like this I'm buying hope and you'r just buying a good feeling for awhile to have that hope. Every now and again it pays off.

Yeah just doing some prelim research and 44 is in the lead so far.
-
I've hunted 45 and 52 recently, so if you need some info, let me know.
-
Congratulations! Thanks for posting & would love to hear the story of your journey to a monster.
-
Hunted 55 in 2014 and 54 in 2015 as well.

Thanks I just might, I have a lot of homework to do, there is a lot of info and variables to cover. One thing is for sure though when I go over I'm not coming back until this tag is filled with something worthy of it. I can always find another job or girlfriend but this tag is something I'm not likely to ever see again, best to do it right.

If you want shoot a 170 velvet buck with a tag you could hang on a 200" buck yeah that would be a good one ...
-
Wow! What a great tag! Congratulations!

Good draw man!

Congrats! I ran into a guy in 45 who was with the super hunt winner from 2015. Not sure what unit they ended up finding his buck, they had a plan to check out a bunch of units. You're going to have a great Fall
-
If I could pick any tag to have in any state this is probably the tag I would choose. There are a lot of good units to look at. If I were you I would get ahold of JJhunter. He seems to hunt a good draw unit every year.
But if you want my :twocents: I would hunt 55 in August, 45 in late October, and then finish out November in 40 then 54.

Probably going to do a late hunt in 44 or 45. When does the rut generally take place over there?

Hunt 44 the first week (Sept 15) for a pre scouted buck or 45 from the 24th-31st.

Send me a pm.

There are numerous units in Idaho that produce 200 to 240 class bucks, the toughest part is going to be deciding where to hunt! Congrats, excellent tag!
-
The season in 44 is sept 15-oct 31 and 45 is oct 15-31 so no late seasons in either one. You could hunt 40 in the first couple weeks of November if you want a rut hunt

If your talking about ralph, I believe they were in 45.

Ok well I am gearing up and getting ready to head over to Idaho early next week and see what I can find worthy of this super hunt tag. I also have a general season tag besides the super hunt tag as I didn't know they just give you your deer tag when you get drawn for a super hunt and so I bought one by mistake, turns out might not have been a bad mistake to make. I don't have a time to be back by so it's going to be a long hunting season. Two Idaho deer tags and and a lot of time to fill them so I think it'll be one whitetail, one mule deer so here I go.
-
Good luck, keep us posted!!

We recently saw where two buck fought hard enough to draw blood. The rut is very close, normally we see good rut activity in the last week of October, good luck!

@PlateauNDN is a good one but that is more of a name for a guy that really draws the story out. :chuckle:

Dingleberry .....(is it derogative if it’s real)
