I've fished them plenty in the lake but am looking at hitting them on the river this year. I've never boated the Skagit, is it doable with a prop? If so, any tips on where to launch in the lower river?
-
I was down on the river for 3 hours this morning. Didn't see anyone hook up.
You can put in at mount Vernon west side.
-
Anyone catching any?

I have been on the lower Skagit (Mount Vernon) with a prop but did not go very far. Is this a anchor and plug, or Plunk from the bank fishery?

Plunk small spin n glo's (red/orange) tipped with a coonie from the bank or a boat. Line your coonie up on the shank of your hook tail first and use bait wrap to secure it so it is straight and doesn't spin.

Good to know thanks!

Getting ready to get serious, but haven't heard any reports yet. It will either be Skagit or the bubble this weekend, probably depending on how early I want to get up.

If you have Facebook follow Johns sporting goods he has been posting some nice fish from the bubble

Yeah, several unofficial reports of 30s. I was all set to go last weekend and noticed it was on the only day it was closed, probably for the tribe to net. So, a week later it should be back up to speed.
I'll be there at daylight, to pull my two within 40 minutes, then back on the trailer and up to the Skagit where I will rinse the salt off the boat and jerk a limit of sockeye. That's the plan anyway. :chuckle:

I forgot to mention the part of the plan where I don't look at the tide tables too closely and arrive back in Everett just in time for the -3.7. I had a nice stay on the guest dock and watched the interesting activities.

This just in today:
June 23, 2017
WDFW amends fishing closure areas on the Skagit River
Action: Amends the area of the Skagit River scheduled to close to all fishing to include the river from its mouth to the highway 530 bridge in Rockport.
Effective dates: June 29, 30 and July 6, 7 and 11.
Species affected: All species.
Location: SKAGIT RIVER (Skagit County) from the mouth to the highway 530 bridge in Rockport.
Reasons for action: A previous rule change did not list the entire closure area.
The sockeye fishery, along with other fisheries on the Skagit River, is scheduled to close on these days in order to avoid gear conflicts with tribal fisheries scheduled for those dates.
Other information: Salmon daily limit: 3 sockeye only. Night closure is in effect. Bait may be used. The season may close earlier if the guideline is attained.
Closure dates may change to reflect catches and river conditions. For updates, anglers should check the emergency rule webpage at https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/efishrules/
The sockeye fishery at Baker Lake will open on July 8 with a 4-fish daily limit. Please refer to the Baker sockeye webpage located at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/salmon/sockeye/baker_river.html for further information on seasons, fishing rule updates and fish counts.
