If anyone on here drew the Manson sheep tag, I'm willing to provide some advice if it is wanted...my family has helped several of the sheep hunters get their ram and I know the unit well...just throwing it out there for anyone.

PS. If anyone drew the Chelan Butte tag I can help out with some pointers on that one too...though none are really needed...
-
And who ever drew the Manson Sheep tag might want to pick up next months copy of Successful Hunter Magazine...there's an article in there (cover story) that tells all about the history of the sheep reintroduction and the hunt, highlighting the 12 year old kid who was drawn a few years ago, and also highlighting a WA-Hunt member...Loki!!!!

According to the guy in the last Huntin Fool he had to hire a guide to make that hunt something special.
No guide is needed on that hunt though.

"According to the guy in the last Huntin Fool he had to hire a guide to make that hunt something special."...guess he's the fool part of Hunting Fool then! We both know all you need is a good spotting scope, and two trucks (one at the bottom and one at the top!)...and ibuprofen for the knees after the hike down! :)

PS. Ridge, hope all is well, lunch soon my friend! We only drew some doe permits but the boys will have a good year this year! (they each drew muzzy doe permits)
-
I agree that you don't need a guide for that hunt. I will say however it paid off for that guy. He killed the biggest ram in the unit last year. Being that it wasn't on the butte helped...
-
That's a very kind offer, Grade.
-
It's a self serving offer...I grew up in the unit and will probably never get drawn for the tag, so my dad and I help out and get to enjoy hearing and seeing the success of the hunt!
-
I drew that tag this year. How can I contact you?
Any advise will help.

Congrats, it's a neat place to hunt. Hopefully, you have a boat.
-
I do have a 17 ft alum. boat. If anyone has any other advise, I would really appreciate the help. This is a once in a lifetime hunt and I want to be prepared.
-
Bring a spinning rod while you scout, might as well eat fresh trout for dinner.
Feel free to PM and questions, as you might know, I drew that tag in 2015. Also, be sure to get in touch with Grade Creek's dad, he is great, and has a cool trophy room.... ;)

Thanks Loki...ya, the old man has a few animals worth note...like the #1 muzzy muley for WA!...anyway, jmason, Congrats!!!! Your in for a hunt of a lifetime! Send me a pm and I will give you my personal contact info, as well as some ways to start scouting that unit now. If you really want to get stoked pick up next months issue of Successful Hunter Magazine which features Cody Dobbins, the 12 year old kid who drew the Manson tag in 2012 as well as it highlights Loki's hunt...the article also give some advice regarding scouting and the need of a boat for this hunt.
to start with, don't worry about this past winter, the sheep did just fine. A big Tom cougar was found dead in the winter grounds...no idea how it died, as from what I heard it looked healthy and no bullet holes, but the fact that the Tom was the dominant male and died during the winter means more sheep lived. Check out the Chelan Ranger District (Forest Service) website as they implemented a permit system to boat uplake and use the docks during the summer and early fall time of the year. It won't affect your hunt but will affect your scouting if you plan on docking your boat this summer. Of course you can cruise up there and scout all you want via boat and head back to town each day, plus I know of some spots where you can scout from across the lake with a good spotting scope, via car. I will be over there off and on through the summer and fall (though my boys drew Alta muzzy doe permits...so I probably won't deer hunt there this year...). I will also let me Dad know that you drew, and if you need a place in Manson to store/hang meat or the head/hide he is always willing to help out (though we will be in Idaho until Nov. 5th). Also, please contact Dave Volson at the Wenatchee Office (WDFW) bio...he will probably give you my dad's name and number too, as he already gave it to the South Shore goat permit hunter this year.

Thanks guys!...just living through another hunters dreams! Someday I hope to get this tag...until then I will help whoever draws it and wants the assistance! I have made contact with jmason and setting plans. My hopes are he gets a old, mature, ram...I know there are a few in there and I took a photo of a 3/4-7/8 curl one that I would be stoked to get. Either way, so glad to hear the tag went to jmason who is a great guy and deserves this tag!

Good on you Grade

Anyone hear how the Uno Fire is effecting the sheep? Has anyone seen them lately?
-
Since we have already been chatting via PM I won't be redundant...but also here is a link that will give you all the info plus a map you can zoom in on...as you can see the fire is still a ways from the sheep area.

Heard through the grapevine that they lost Crow cabin. Bummer.
-
Yes...the cabin is gone...
-
Up in smoke too bad the nut case running around there didn't suffer the same results.
-
Last day?
-
Hope the tag holder was able to harvest an animal
-
a long time ago I thought, unless this one had a second season too
-
Not my place to speak for the hunter(s)...but I will admit I got a text photo of a nice ram taken a few weeks ago, and a "thank you". Just wish I was there to enjoy the hunt in person, but I was busy packing my elk out of the Idaho backcountry.

Beautiful Ram. But I believe that is the other tag holder.
-
Yes, those photos above are from the other tag holder...both permit rams were filled. I sent the person above a FB comment that I have photos of that ram alive, taken last winter, never heard from them. In fact, where I took the photos of that ram might be in the same rocks! Last winter he was in a bachelor band with an ear tagged ram. If anyone knows who this hunter is and they want a photo of him alive, let me know...and yes, they are high quality photos available at my website (in case anyone else wants one!) www.jasonbrooksphotography.com

Why didn't you have photos of mine? Jeez, some photo service you are..... m :chuckle:

I was busy...spending all summer figuring how to mess up my dad's shotgun so you could carry around a 10 pound single shot 12 gauge!!! ;)
-
For the right price I am sure he could come up with a photo :chuckle:

:o The only time I ever got into Hungarian Partridge back in WI as a kid, I had my mom's Rem 1100, dang thing would only fire one shot and then not cycle, which I did not know when I grabbed it to deer hunt that day. I did manage to get three of them though after hiking a half mile or more for two more flushes.... :)

That's OK, I'll have him to look at soon enough, I hope.
-
Well get permission and show us! We wanna see!
-
I will see if I can get permission to post a pic of the other tag holders ram.
-
Hoping to find a few rams when I visit back home later this month...I'll photoshop Loki's ram onto one for Ya Loki!!! :) and like Sky said, "for the right price"...like a trip out spot shrimping this summer!!!!
Grade
PS. The other ram is a nice one too, about 6 years old, still had it's lamb tips and good curls but I am a bit bias as I think all rams are cool!...Loki, I think you might be interested in where they found it...you probably have pictures of it from your hunt ;)
-
I was given permission to post the other Manson Sheep from this year...here you go! and Congrats to the hunter on a mature ram!

Here's another angle on the ram...Loki, does that place look familiar? :) and again, congrats to the hunter!

Looks like about the same bend in the lake, was it the same spot?
-
Loki, Yes...same spot as your ram. Probably the same hillside! I was sent the photos via text which were a bit bigger framed, I cropped them and adjusted the light as the shadows made it to where you couldn't see details of the ram or hunter. Anyway, the full-sized photos show more of the hillsides and background...just above Mitchell Creek dock up on the hillsides.

He looks awfully like the one on the right here...same annuli on his right horn.
