Didn't think I would ever draw but after 21 years my number finally came up. Lots of homework to do now.
-
I drew the Whitetail tag. How about if you see a dandy Whitey, you call me, and if I see a dandy Mulie, I call you?? Deal?? :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
Congrats!!!
I didn't draw Perrygin this year but still hoping for next year.
-
They had a really bad winter kill on young deer, but I think it's going to be a good year for bigger bucks, been a wet spring that will keep their food supply real strong late into the summer. May not be as many bucks but I think you'll have a chance at a nice buck. Congratulations!

Sounds like a plan 🦌

Yeah I hope so. I'm sure last winter cut into the numbers some but after 21 years of waiting will just have to get after it and see what turns up. Hunted 224 off and on during general but need to figure out a plan for Nov.
-
Congrats. That's a fun hunt. Had the tag back in 04. Saw 80 bucks in 2 days. Probably a little shy of that now but had an awesome experience. Good luck👊💥👊
-
elkpack- I'll be joining you. Can't believe I finally drew. I believe we coordinated on the goat hunt a few years ago when I was "guiding" for Dan-O's son. Let's stay in touch.
-
My son drew the any buck tag(1027) so we may see you in there.
-
I drew in 2013 and couldn't go over until the second weekend because my brother John (Fishseeker) Murphy was at the time in the hospital in a coma and we lost him that Friday morning. I went over Saturday, got up Sunday morning and dropped a nice 5x5 within and hour. We were on the Methow Game Range off SR 20 above the Upper Beaver Creek Road. There were at least 8 big 4x4 or better within 800 yards of each other in a light snow. Very easy hunt. This should wet your appetite now. Good luck. They are there and once in a while you get lucky and they come easy. :chuckle:

First off, congrats, I agree with mkcj with the exception of.....we found a few big fellas that didnt make it either. Its gonna be tough in the Methow for the next 3-4 years in my opinion :dunno:...Been seeing some, but no where near what it once was.Found three big 4,s and a dandy 5x6 that didn't make the spring sun. It will be a tough tag this year I'm afraid. Hunt hard, stay close to timber and hunt the first 10 days of November for this year(IMHO)...this herd has taken a beating, its not down for the count but its in need of a breather....
-
Thanks for the input guys and congrats to the others that drew. I always assume they will be tough hunts but excited to see what happens after the long wait.
-
Probably about the worst year ever to draw, but maybe luck will be on your side. I didn't even apply this year, it's that bad and I'm pretty sure I won't spend much time there with a camera other than for reminiscence sake, or time in old haunts. It is still a good time to be in the woods and the chance of excitement....
-
Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone out there has drawn the buck deer tag for the Perigan I did this year.If anyone has can they tell me a little about it it would b very helpful and apreaciated

Bone, looks like your prediction is holding true. Have been hunting every day since the 8th and have only seen one potential shooter but couldnt get on him. Seeing a few bucks every day but nothing big. Always good to be in the woods and as you said...a chance for excitement. Still a few days left to make something happen.
-
Persistence will pay off!!
-
Sometimes I hate being right. Its really good country to spend the fall in. Your resident biologist thinks you should be having extra luck because of a poor general season harvest. Maybe his words will ring true. Enjoy the last few days of your hunt. There are still a few out there.

Hey elkpack, you have a great attitude under some not so "positive" of circumstances because of whats happened to this herd, but you know what, its just you and a few other fellas out there chasing muleys around with some cold weather and a little snow in gods country. Your seeing deer and a few bucks which is great. I agree with what bone said and I also agree with its "a good time to be in the woods and the chance of excitement".....I will add they aint all gone yet ..good luck

Good luck elkpack, I've been trying for 20 years myself for that tag, maybe next year? The game range used to be a great place to hunt, it's not the same anymore but in the past the WDFW would bring feed in, if it was a hard winter(after the season of course) most of the lucky DRAW hunters I talked to said "not to waste your time beating the brush," they just said keep driving and you'll see your buck. I think by the time I get drawn I'll be too old to beat the brush and won't be allowed to drive! 40 years ago you couldn't drive by the game range in the morning or evening without having to stop to let the deer cross the hiway. That is not a joke, very true. And from the sounds of it you might even get a look at a few wolves from the Loop Loop Pack! Don't shoot at them, you know, "they are protected"
Good luck, post a pic of your trophy!

no.cen.wa, if you get drawn for that tag(which you are do for!) you make sure to get ahold of me, between the two of us "old timers" we,ll find one of those big fellas of old, there might be one left, but there will be TWO of us :chuckle:

Your report is exactly what my son and I are finding elkpack. He has the tag and hunted all but 2 days of the season. I have been here since the 9th. We are seeing a few deer everyday but only one potential shooter seen today that we couldn't get close enough too. Lots of hiking and glassing getting done. We are here for the duration. Still time to get it done. We are in a silver Ford F-150 SuperCrew with canopy. Stop and say hello if you pass by. Let us know if you bang something.

The top paragraph is a quote from elk packer. Don't know why it didn't highlight.

Elk Packer and Shootem if you guys want some info on spots shoot me a PM and we can touch bases.
-
Thanks for the comments guys. Enjoying the hunt and will make the best of it and keep hitting the hills and see what I can turn up. Good luck to the other tag holders.
-
You still have lots of time! Good luck!!
-
It really is a shame that this special permit area has came down to what it is now. This was probably one of the best areas in its time.

Thanks bigmacc,

Not a shooter but spent some time with this buck this AM and liked the picture through the grass. Pretty buck.

Wow....that is serious restraint. Haven't seen a ton of deer and 4 days left.....I may have dumped him. Nice buck and great pic.

Good for you elk pack, under the circumstances with the shape this herd is in I think it was a good call. I know a guy who had this tag also and had to leave early(out of state work) and seen a few bucks just like that and he let them walk because of the poor shape of this herd, he was holding out for a chance at the "big fella" that was worthy of this hunt and ended up eating the tag....Not judging anyone in any way that would kill this deer, heck if things and times were different and it was me, I would have squeezed the trigger

That is a cool pic with the grass contrasting with the dark antlers!

Oh Baby,Oh Baby,Oh Baby,, maybe you'll find his Daddy, good luck and great pic!
-
I have the whitetail tag been seeing some nice mulies head up into the snow I've been hunting in about 8 inches of snow

Ended my season last night after the long 21 year wait with this nice typical 4x4. He isn't the big masher we all hope to find but I just couldn't pass on this buck. I was on a long hike up a steep drainage hunting the way I love on foot. Spent the entire day out hiking and was working my way back down the spine of the ridge along a timber line and caught him pushing does just inside the timber. No time to study or debate as he was on the move. One shot and I punched my tag. Thanks to forum members willing to share info and encouragement. It was a tough year finding the big guys but I saw bucks on every hunt each day so hard to beat that. Time to start the long application lottery process once again.

congrats bud

Truly a beautiful buck.

Great buck and it sounds like great hunt! Congratulations

Now I can call it a wrap. A 3 hour pack this morning and he is now all accounted for. A little pain adds to the memory just as I like it.
-
Nice deer
-
Pretty buck. Congrats on your hard work.
-
Great job elkpack. We saw one decent shooter today but couldn't get close enough for a shot. The same small bucks courting the ladies in the same spots with no migration of other bucks into the area. It is amazing to see small 2 and 3 pointers getting away with full rut activity with out getting there butts kicked by something bigger.
-
Very nice!
-
Great buck!! You never know what each season will bring...WELL DONE!
-
Stud of a buck brother  real good looking deer id be very proud to tag that fella great job
