My Son drew a youth Green river buck tag for Nov 4-10, I've been told we can't scout in there before season :bash: Just wondering if anybody has any helpful info on where to go? We have been looking at google earth and trying to figure out where we might go, but its just not the same as knowing an area before you hunt it. Either way its going to be an awesome time with my son learning a new area and hopefully seeing lots of nice bucks.

You will get a packet in the mail with all the rules and access areas and other information you will need eventually. You won't be able to scout and only one person can go with your son. That is a prime time week for the rut so you should not have any trouble seeing a decent Buck. Its a huge area and you are going to want to cover alot of ground and glass, glass, glass....and then you will go around a corner and there will be a Buck in the road. You will have a great time with your son and one to remember....congrats and enjoy.......Les

:yeah: one of the biggest bucks a patrol officer said he has seen was last year, standing in the road. Kept seeing him in the same spot, unfortunately the mucks killed that one, but there's more. You should have a great hunt, the dates are perfect.

Talk to the security guards. They would tell us the mile markers and roads where they see deer most often. Drive, drive, drive and cover ground. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info to all the hunt WA members, we really appreciate any advice we can get from folks that know the area. My son's football coach's boy drew this 5 or 6 years ago and got a really nice 4 point with eye gaurds, he said to go in 19 miles past the entrance and start there, another hunt WA member PM'D me to go in 21 miles, so it sounds like that must be a good spot. The hard part is going to be to keep him from shooting the first buck we see, he has only shot a couple of forked horns and a cow elk so I'm sure it's going to be really hard to hold back on a nice 3 point, but his Mom's got a really nice 135" blacktail hanging on the wall that he has been sizing up, so it may be a little easier if he's more set on getting 1 that big or bigger. We would like to spend the the full 7 days in there but the earlier the better because he also has a Margaret Cow tag to try to fill for regular modern elk season. I know what a problem to have to have.
Thank's again!!

I had a buck tag in there a couple of years ago and took a nice 3 pointer. I believe another member on here had a daughter with the buck tag as well and she took a nice buck as well. I will look at my map and see if I marked where I got my buck. I want to say it was near Mt. Humphrey. The guards are really nice in there and one even gave me a hand getting my buck to the truck and offered to show me where he had seen a few bear before he stopped to help me. It was a fun hunt and I was lucky enough to get a bull tag in there for this year. I always wanted to have a watershed buck and bull on the same wall so hopefully I can make it happen this year. Good luck to you guys and I will keep an eye out while I am in there for any good bucks for you guys.

Furree65, sounds like a great hunt opportunity in there for both deer and elk, I hope you find a ripper bull in there. A guy I work with had a bull tag in there last year, said he only saw a few does but ended up getting a really nice black horned 6x6 on the last day. I'll be driving an old 1991 red Toyota pickup if you see me get my attention. Its nice to know that the guards are willing to help. We can't wait!! Just really wish they would let you scout or at least let you in to learn the roads before season.

Sounds good. I will keep an eye out for you guys and I will be in an older silver ford f350. I keep envisioning a nice dark horned bull like you mentioned and hopefully you guys can put that tag on a nice buck.

I wouldn't discourage him from shooting a nice 3 point if you see one, definitely not what it use to be and even in the glory years finding something even close to 135" would've been tough. Went with a buddy who had a tag a couple of years ago, seen a 3 point opening morning that he passed, probably close to 115" and never seen a bigger one. They only brought 3 deer out his whole hunt. Blacktail hunting though, could get lucky.

The dates have been moved around over the years which has affected this hunt a bit. I would say Nov 4-10 couldn't get much better for finding a giant.

:yeah:
That's what we are banking on, hope they are just running stupid through them dates

This Kevin? I had it 5 years ago, same year Colby had the tag. Another buddy of mine had it the same year so there were 3 of us from Chehalis the same year. A guy could kill a dandy in there, but it's still blacktail make sure ya got a bear tag.

Lets see some of the Green River bucks

Yes this is Kevin, who's this? My boy wants to know if you guys that had the tag 5 years ago have pictures of the bucks you got. And we are defiantly going to have to get him a bear tag, didn't know he was able to hunt for bear while being in there until the other day. Is he able to hunt Cougar in there as well?
Post some Green River Bucks

Great tag for youth or adult. Season dates are perfect I had the tag in the 90's. I can still remember the hunt like it was yesterday. Good luck to your son.

And yes you can hunt cougars as well. Even if you kill a deer you can keep going in till your season is over to hunt bears and cougars.
