I arrived at the gate around 5:00 and hiked into my spot and glassed where I spotted him before a couple weeks ago and only spotted a few deer so I continued to where he was hanging out at. It was about a mile walk and made various stands of calling to no success up until about 7. while hiking back I decided to stop in the clear cut (the one I was glassing when I arrived) and sat down to get a snack and check the phone. before doing this I called for about 5 minutes on my Wayne Carlton elk call/distressed rodent call :chuckle: as I was watching a few deer walk away I look up and about 130 yards down the hill the bear comes walking up!!! :yike: totally unprepared I scramble to grab my pack and get a good rest. he noticed me moving and didn't really know what to think as he snarled and sniffed the air and turned around offering a quartering away shot so I got on him.... steadied the reticle ...BOOM! .... look up.... and the bear dropped in his tracks and not a step more!
Couldn't have been a better shot. Waited about 15 minutes after calling my father and my pack mules/buddies and walked up to him and found out how big he was! my guess is around 300lb give or take 20lb. packed him to the truck and that's all she wrote! after inspecting his neck area I found an odd looking scab and what appears to be where I shot him last year! just so being the same bear that brought so much heartache last year! what an epic bear season! hopefully the luck rolls over to deer and elk!
