Title: 6.5 Creedmoore & 143 gr ELD-X question
Post by: TVHunts on July 16, 2017, 04:14:51 PM
Curious where most guys are finding their accuracy using node using H-4350, 143 grain ELD-X .  I used Federal LR Match primers, nosler brass.  The rifle is a Bergara
B-14.

I started at 38.5 grains and worked up to 42 grains which is a 1/2 over published data Hornady  They are seated .039 off the lands in this ladder test.  Here is what I got

39 grains I had 2 bullets touching and one flyer for. 1.18" group (me ? )
39.5 Grs. 2 touching and one flyer for a 1.23" group. ( me? )
41 grs I had a .76" group
41.5 grs was a 1.02" group.

So, curious how far off the lands others are getting good results with and also powder charges.

Any help would be great!

Do you know your velocity? I don't shoot a Creedmoor but I run that bullet in a 6.5x47 Lapua and I got the best accuracy right around 2740 fps with 38.7gr of H4350 from a 30" barrel. 2725-2760 fps seems to be a good mid velocity accuracy node with 140gr bullets in the 6.5mm.

I do not know my velocity. I usually don't take the time to Chrono until I get something that is working for me.  But, that maybe some help.

Hornady Precision Hunter factory ammo has an OAL of 2.81. Not sure what that is off the lands in my rifle though. Shoots a ragged hole at 100 yards and less than an inch at 200 yards out of my Ruger Predator. I don't plan on handloading anymore if it keeps this up.

Factory, SAAMI OAL usually has a huge bullet jump, not that it is wrong as you have found out.  Some factory rifles you have no choice as the Mag length prohibits anything longer.  Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

I just picked up a Savage 12 in 6.5CM with a 26" 1:8 twist.  I'm going to test the 143 ELD-X, 140 VLD and 130 AR Hybrid all with H4350.  I'll let you know what shakes out.

Sounds great, I am thinking of trying a different bullet as well.  I'll try my 3 best results and see if I can repeat them.

I just waiting for my scope to come in so I can shoot my new Hells Canyon Speed 6.5 creedmoor. Those are loads that I want to try. I'll pay you for some.
