I'm told this bull got hit out there this morning. :'(
-
That sucks, Hope nobody was hurt.
-
Looks weird though, I know it's a "Dodge" but should t there be some damage?

That's what I was thinking. It almost looks staged the way the blood is on the fender and a cut to the neck of the elk.
-
:yeah: Har far out in the field do you have to be before it's called poaching?
-
I'll pull my original statement for the time being and leave it at,
really odd photo, wonder what took place leading up to such a strange and dramatic scene. :dunno:
-
That mature bull body looks tiny compared to the truck, tire, wheel, etc.
-
Poaching rule #1, don't take pictures.
-
Wow....
I have no inside scoop but some of you are jumping right to poaching?
How can you possibly tell from a pic?
And if it was mortally wounded and ran 100 yards it a field, so what?
I hope if this is a legit roadkill that those who accused him are man enough to apologize.
-
It does look staged but there is damage to one of the brow tines and there are trucks on what appears to be a road behind the truck... anymore pics of the incident?
-
Looks like hwy18 thru the window, lots of traffic.

:yeah:
I've seen bulls shot through both lungs run much further than that before stopping.
-
The traffic report on the news this morning talked about delays due to a vehicle/elk collision in Maple Valley.
-
I'm guessing there is damage on the front passenger corner, that blood all ran down from the hood, I'd guess either a severed jugular or he ended up on the hood after the impact
-
The driver is being transported for non-life threatening injuries.
-
There is some giant bulls around there
-
You get to keep the head on roadkill? Or have to turn that over when getting salvage permit? Too bad to see this happen. Really hope the driver is ok.

I was joking, Dan-O. I guess I apologize for my bad sense of humor. God, I can't wait until hunting season starts.

My understanding is that you keep the entire animal

"The entire carcass, including entrails, of the animal must be removed from the road right of way."
-
Yeah, website doesn't say anything about antlers and the form doesn't ask. That's a great trophy although if the guy was hurt it isn't likely he would be able to bag that one up. That may not even be the rig that hit it first.
-
I was told Maple Valley Highway.
-
Ok thanks guys. That's what I was thinking. Was just clarifying
-
The car that was hit was a Saturn Vue. This guy just stopped to help. I was told the meat was taken to the food bank. No poaching or anything suspect. Prayers to the injured driver.
Was hit on 169 right passed Foley's produce stand heading towards Renton.
-
I hope the driver I'd OK.
That would be pretty terrifying.
-
A Vue? He's lucky to have walked away.
-

It can't possibly be with all the poaching conspiracies!!

He's at least injured. Not sure he did walk away.

:yeah: if the HW investigators already gave their findings then it's as such. No other common sense, facts or evidence can change otherwise.
-
Still don't get it unless Saturn hits it, severs jugular , Dodge gets sprayed by it and elk then falls down next to truck? Weird.
Either way, hope it wasn't one of the big uns that hangs around by us. That'd be a shame....
Crazier hits have happened. Buddy totaled a new F 250 4x4 with a white tail doe back in WI a while back. Seems impossible until you hear the story. He was following behind a little car at highway speeds. Car tags the deer and boots it up in the air like a field goal kick. Deer comes falling out of the sky and lands on his windshield/roof. Was enough damage to the top of the cab to total the truck.
-
I'm thinking about getting a brush guard with machete mounts for situations like this..... lots of blood... still a road kill, but what's with all the blood on the truck??
-
The other side of the truck was destroyed .. went by it this morning ..
-

But I thought a Saturn Vue hit it? :dunno: I'm not jumping to the conclusion of accusing somebody of poaching, and I really hope all involved are ok, but all the stories and this picture are sure weird.
-
What a shame
Yes, there are some monster bulls between there and the shed

The elk was salvaged by my cousin not taken to the food bank, it was loaded into his pickup by a self loader log truck! I'll try and get a better picture of it later because that picture does the bull no justice.
-
The white truck in the picture is actually sitting for sale along the side of the road, after the bull was hit it made it to the truck and was leaning against it thus the blood on the quarter panel. WSP dispatched it

I drove by the bull was still alive with it's head up bedded in front of the truck. I was hoping one of his smaller buddies got hit and he was just there for emotional support. Bummer
-
:yike: What a bull.
-
saw a live picture of him, he had a nice dropper. Probably busted off
-
Great salvage, I would take the rack to a taxi, have him do it up, sell it and pay for my hunt next year.
-
What a monster!
-
This was a photo taken by someone who lives down there and has this bulls shed antlers. Cool droptines for sure.
-
:yike: wow.......... was he living on private or something to get to that caliber?
-
I believe he said it would frequent their property often. I believe this is a more recent photo of the bull that he posted. I chatted with the guy for a little bit and I was saying how it was sad that this bull ended up getting hit but I hoped he got to spread those genes around and he said there is definitely one of this bulls offspring that has the same caliber of headgear roaming the area as well so thats good to here but hopefully he doesn't meet the same fate.
-
What a stud!
-
Man, he was awesome.
-
That very well may be the largest bull elk I have ever seen alive. Too bad it was after it was already hit. What a shame.
I am really glad someone got to salvage it though. I like that new law.
-
Beautiful animal. Sad to see it ran over, but glad to hear it didn't got to waste.
-
Another a buddy sent me.
-
One of the deputies who responded to this just showed me some pics of this bull right before the trooper shot the elk...HOLY CRAP!!!! that was HUGE
-

Photoshopped too much blood

That blood was from his antlers (which were still in velvet and growing). He had just been hit by a Saturn VUE near SR 169 south of Maple Valley. He was then shot by a WSP Trooper while my buddy, a KCSO deputy, watched. I have seen pictures, which my buddy took a metric ton of them (the elk was a 9x10) and have seen the incident report (KCSO didn't draw a case as this was a WSP collision).
This was real and the blood was also real and not photoshopped.

Do drop tines and irregular points come and go with different years on the same animal??
I don't know enough about antler growth, but the roadkill bull has a big cheater point coming off his left G1, and no drop-tines. Are we all talking about the same animal?

All of the locals say this was the same bull. I just know this bull that was killed was a main frame 9x9 with that big cheater (inline)
-
I'm mostly asking out of curiosity. Either way, it's an unfortunate end for a magnificent bull. I'm glad a lot of people will get to enjoy the meat, though

Just got another scoop on this. My mother in laws boyfriend had this sucker in his backyard for a long time. I saw a picture of him about 2 seasons ago. He was with about 14 cows. They would come up to about 100 yards from his porch. He grew from a 7 point. One of his customers was there when it happened. Nuts! If only I knew how to shoot a bow, I could have had at least a chance to hunt him... :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
Sad to see, beautiful animal!
I know there is another large 7pt roaming that area, my neighbor had it roam through his yard about a month ago. Learn to shoot a bow @seatosummit88 that are is thick with elk
-
I had no idea about that to be honest with you swanny, until I started to get to know him better. He found out that I hunted and started showing me cell phone pictures; I was jaw dropped. He doesn't hunt, so these elk/bulls were cool to him, but not in the same context as a sportsman. I have been interested in getting into learning how to shoot a bow and develop archery techniques. That area has quality bulls, and sometimes its that small degree of separation and getting matched up with the right people, to be on the path of success.
