Title: Thumb Release
Post by: elkdrivemenuts on August 05, 2017, 06:09:27 PM: Any one make the switch to a thumb release or use them? I bought mine the other day and boy it is different. Do you generally use it with the thumb up or down? Or is out a personal preference thing? Appreciate any feedback you can give.

Post by: carpsniperg2 on August 05, 2017, 06:12:21 PM: I made the switch many years ago. I shoot so much better with a thumb release then I do a standard trigger style release. I rotate my hand and shoot thumb down.

I hate tension releases :chuckle: IMHO they are better for the range and 3d shoots. I hunt and practice with the same bows I am using. So I don't like switching gear just to up a score when its just practice for me. If you are going for money then sure I see it but I'm not shooting for $ in shoots just warming up and practice for the hunt :IBCOOL:

I could never find a solid anchor with my wrist release, after adjusting a little bit my anchor is now rock solid with the thumb. I did notice I shot better with 3 fingers rather than all 4. I still draw with all 4, but pull my pinky back before going to anchor. I am feeling it allows a more natural angle on the release with my gorilla hands, groups improved more for me doing that as well. I keep trying my wrist release every now and again, and keep putting it back away after 2-3 shots with it. And shoot thumb down for sure.

It took me a long time to get used to mine because I wasn't shooting correctly. Not pulling my shoulder blades together through the release caused way too many wild releases. Once I started shooting correctly, it's become a great shooter. I use a whippersnapper.

Post by: theleo on August 09, 2017, 08:01:55 AM: I'm using a hinge release with a safety but keep a TB Incredible in my pack for backup. There's many ways to initiate the shot with a thumb release, so play around with it till you find one that's comfortable. To me there's only one downside to a hand held release, they're easier to lose, so make sure you have a backup.

Post by: elkdrivemenuts on August 09, 2017, 09:19:56 AM: I bought the hard core revolution 4 finger. My hand are too big so I just tuck my pinky back. Really improved my shooting. My draw length was a little short with the wrist release now out feels just right. Good move for sure.
