Just curious. How many of you guys carry a dedicated GPS unit, and why use (i.e., pay the $$ for) that rather than use a smartphone with the various map/gps apps on the market?
I've only ever used my phone, and I'm curious if I'm just missing some feature of the handheld GPS units that makes them superior.

Have a dedicated gps but don't carry it anymore. Do carry the Rhino radio with gps - gamechanger when hunting with family/friends. Usually use Rhino for GPS with phone as backup or in rig navigation.

In cold weather my phone dies in minutes.. Even on airplane mode just sitting in my pocket. I always carry a GPS.. Just makes me feel better.

Phone exclusive.

I take both but leave my phone in the vehicle and carry a dedicated GPS when out of the vehicle.

:yeah: The battery life on the Iphone sucks. The battery on the Rino will last for a week or more if I turn it off when not in use. Leaving it on all day uses about 15%. Having the 5W radio, locationing with partners, camera, texting between partners, makes it a very useful tool. The touch screen works with gloves on, too. Touch screen on the phone doesn't always work in cold and/or wet.
