Title: Puyallup River pinks
Post by: Old Man Yager on August 08, 2017, 11:54:52 AM
So the Puyallup opens a week from today. Daily limit says 6, up to 2 adults may be retained, release wild adult Chinook. So can you catch 2 adults( either chinook or coho) plus 4 pinks, or jacks, or a combo of both? Just thought I'd ask how others read the rule.

Two total fish that are adults. Pinks are considered adults. There is NO bonus pinks this year.

The Carbon is more fish, per an email this am, you can keep 4 adults on the Carbon, of which 2 may be hatchery Chinook.

Yeah a lot of people are gonna be keeping over there limit due to lack of reading the regs. And going off the past limits. Hope the fish start showing up soon. The sound seems to be lacking pinks so far from what im reading on creel reports and such.

As stated you will only be able to keep 2 adults on the puyallup and pinks are considered adults so 2 pinks or combo of other salmon equalling a total of two adults. Only jack silvers or jack kings can get you up to the 6 fish mark which jacks have to be caught prior to adult limit to get there. Once adult daily limit is retained you are done fishing.

I fished this morning. Wasn't great but there were a few fish to be had. All the fish I saw were pinks! I hooked 2 but both came unbuttoned. I did catch an old pair of someones skivies though so that made the morning a little bit exciting  :o

I had one in the net by 5:45 opening morning, and then had to head to work. Fished in the afternoon, and my son lost 1 at the net, and then caught 2 more. All pinks so far, but I did see a guy with a nice King

I hear the tribes are netting it today.  Not slamming tribal netting, just reporting.  ;)

I thought they were only supposed to be netting on Sundays during the month of August...?

Consider it a rumor, I didn't see it first hand.

Fished the puke for the 5th time today.  Been slow for most.  Generally I can see 20+ fishermen each time I go.  I'd say 4-5
fish caught on average per 20 guys fishing in the 1-2 hours I'm there each time.  Pretty slow.  I did manage to catch a Silver today.  Wasn't expecting that this early in the season.  Lost a pink also.  Son also lost a pink today.

They are fun to catch.  I wouldn't eat one myself, but enjoy fishing for them.

They are only supposed to be netting on Sundays until Sept 1, when they will be netting the Puyallup Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays... But, the Carbon opens up Sept 1, so there's that...

Its fun to go and watch the circus.  every wal mart within a hundred miles is sold out of ugly sticks and 80 pound braid.  people treat them things like gold down there.haha

Saw a guy fishing with a 6' halibut pole and braided line.  he managed to catch one though it wasn't much of a fight.
Got my line caught up with another guy who was using a double hook mooching leader in probably 25# test.
It's always a circus on the Puyallup R, but lots of good guys also fishing down there.

Are the fish still running? I think the regs says the river is open up to Dec 31 (up to the Carbon river)

Silvers are coming now. Not much as far as Pinks/Kings this late in the year. From my experience.
