I'm holding a Colockum archery bull tag. Shooter? Thoughts? Score guesses on him?

It wasn't long ago that I had an easy shot at a couple of smaller bulls with a permit tag that I didn't think were shooters. In the end I didn't turn out to be a shooter that season and my freezer has a lot of empty space as a result. That's a good bull, definitely a shooter.

It's up to you if it's a shooter or not. If it's me he is dead.

Nice bull, shooter for sure. You may want to take a picture of him to the local bio and see if they can tell you when it was tranquilized. The meat is no good for a certain period of time after being darted. My cow moose last year had a collar and the ear tag had info on it to check when it was darted on their website. Not trying to scare you, but that was my experience (concerned me a bit at the time, but all was OK).

You cant shoot him!!!! He is someone's pet!!!! If you took another picture as he passed you would see the 10 year old boy with the leash attached to that collar!!!!! :IBCOOL:

I have the tag as well, he is 340 for sure if its the bull I have seen with a collar. I was hoping to hang my tag on that guy. There could be two with collars up there I guess, maybe it is a different bull. Good luck and send me a PM if you get in a real bind I may be able to give you a hand.
Edit, just downloaded the photo and blew it up. Is he missing his G3? Might actually be a second bull. And that one might be under 340 the closer I look. Definitely over 310 and I am shooting anything over 310 that gives me a good shot.

I filmed a good bull in there with a collar last weekend too. But it was a different bull with a different style collar. Id say that bull goes right in that 310-320 range (his mains look pretty short), but its difficult to tell since the top of his rack is cut off in the pic. He's definitely got nice fronts and what looks to be a solid top end. As you know since you put in for the tag, there are many bulls in there that are much bigger. But getting an opportunity is a different story, especially with a bow. I think the biggest thing when drawing any tag is figuring out what YOU want out of the hunt. Would you be happy with that bull? Do you have a certain criteria in mind for the tag? 300"+ or 340"+? Make the hunt what you want it to be and it will be a success. If you'd be happy with a bull on the first day and you get the opportunity; then take it. If you are just stoked about being able to hunt the rut and want to hold out and are ok not filling the tag unless its on the biggest bull of your life. Then do that. Don't let other peoples opinions or expectations change what you want to get from the hunt. Ultimately its your tag getting put on the elk. PS I'm jealous! Hope you stick a good bull. Good luck.

Pretty sure that that is GoPro camera on a collar. Looks like that bull is getting ready to make some elk porn videos soon. After that he is looking to gore a hunter or two on camera.

There should be several collared bulls in the Colockum since the WDFW has been doing a study on bulls in that area for the last 2-3 years. I don't think that they added any bulls this year, but you can check with the bios in Yakima about it.

How are you guys coming up with a score when you can't see half of his left antler and the angle isn't that great for his right side. One downfall of a collared bull is the cape will probably have a ring of broken or missing hair from where the collar was if you're planning to shoulder mount it.

Oh it's a guesstimate for sure. I am combining what I can see from each side and then doubling that. I still think it is missing the g3 on the right and I am not factoring that in. I am figuring 200" for the beams, mass and spread just as a starting point. The fronts and thirds look good. The thirds up there are rarely any good and I have seen multiple bulls this year with good thirds.

Its g3 is there I think. You can see the tip right between and a little above the 1 and first 0 in 100.

Might reach 350. What number ear tag does he have? Seen him last year and would not waste a colockum tag on him. :twocents:

Interesting seeing the different styles of collars they use. This is one of four decent bulls In this group I filmed last weekend. I've seen four or five mature bulls over the last few years with neck collars. Be interesting to hear what the fish and game is finding from this study?

No problem. There was one in the group bigger than him too. All 6 point or better and all over 300".

I would pass on him. Looks like between a 300 to 325 bull. With a tag that coveted, I would hold out for a 350+. But again like others have said it's really hard to score without seeing a better picture
