I thought I would share these photos. My friend Jake Sorenson in Utah who owns "Jakes Custom Taxidermy" mounted this buck for another one of his customers. It was taken in Mexico last season on a guided hunt. Enjoy!
-
 Hope he has lots of wall space that is a beast!
-
Dang!
-
:yike: :o

I didn't know there were elk mulie hybrids out there.
-
Sonora Mexico - 41" outside, 38" inside
Jake's finished mount
-
Incredible, thanks for sharing bearpaw!
-
Wow that mount photo doesn't even look real.
That rack is so darn wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide it makes thhe bucks head look puny.
I think I can now state with confidence that I have never seen a 40" buck.
-
Umm, how much is it to hunt in Mexico?!

I don't know what the guy paid for this hunt, but I do know you can get good sonoran hunts in the 8k to 15k range. Sometimes there are pretty good deals on cancellations if you can go on a last minute notice. I would be wary of regular priced hunts in Mexico that seem cheap, stick with reputable outfits.
-
That deer has an oak tree stuck to its head!
Thanks for sharing those pics.
That thing is awesome.
-
Muy grande!

Come on. You just did. :chuckle:

Amazing buck!!

:yike:

Man they have some beasts running around down there. I think they are also a smaller deer so they look even BIGGER! Trophy of a lifetime there. I like that its true width too, not because of some cheater point
-
Boy, what a beauty.
-
Wow, what a buck!
-
Holy Smokes. That is incredible.
Not sure the draw of a 40 inch buck would make me want to hunt in territory controlled by Mexican Drug cartel though :dunno:
You might get a hunt for 10K and spend another 20K in ransom money to get home :yike:
-
That's kind of how I've always felt.
-
Awesome.
-
I've often wondered if that spread puts them at a fighting disadvantage. Seems a tall 22" buck would fit right inside of him and gouge his face off. :dunno:

I in no way want to minimize the awesomeness off this buck but perhaps a fence kept that from happening? I don't see how width is an advantage to the buck. Obviously low deer density and genetics could encourage the width thingy.

Only if his ears are 60", LOL

I'm pretty sure it was a free range hunt, this is not the first 40" buck I've seen from the Sonora, the genetics in that area produce bucks that look like this.

Some of the biggest racked mule deer pictures on the internet are straight out of Mexico. Who would have thought!
-
What a buck! Like his fairly classic, not so trashy, extra wide frame

Actually those Mule Deer down there are big deer. Head on this deer looks huge in the field photo. I mounted a huge 3 point from down there, a few years ago, (titled "Big Three" on the Forum, I think) that I bought McKenzie's biggest mule deer head and still had to make it considerably larger. Very cool looking deer. Thanks for sharing bearpaw.
-
That's good to know. They obviously don't scrimp on the bone on their heads. I assumed they were like Texas whitetails.
-
Indeed! He carries more mass than I usually see in bucks from down there.

that buck is incedible! my dream bucks are 10''s less wide than that one, he is beyond a dream buck

Yup.
I've never hunted south of the boarder but I have been hearing there are more and more fences encouraging the deer to stay on certain parcels of private property so the ranch owner can stick american money in his pocket.
Just a matter of time until hunting her is just like hunting became in Europe.
A sweet buck.
Mexico is usually an annual stop for the whos who of the hunting world.
-
I will probably get boo'd for this but......When they get that freakishly wide, they lose some attraction for me.
It does not look like a typical normal muley buck. My dream buck would be a 30" typical4x4. Now with all that being said......heck yea, i'd shoot it in a heartbeat. :chuckle:

I agree with you. 28" 4 point or 24"w by 22" tall 3 point is a dream!
-
I thought bucks from that far south would have small bodies but I guess not. Any idea on the weight?
Packing out a set of antlers that big would be a huge pain. Just think of how that set would snag up on brush all the time.

I've always felt the same way. I really want to go to Mexico some day, but I just have no desire to go down to Cartel Land

Another photo I stumbled onto of a big buck from old mexico. This is an older photo, I can't remember who sent the photo, but it's a pretty good buck!

I'm not 100% positive, but I believe the new forum rules made a claim like this a banning offense if you don't produce pictures within 1 hour.

No, I didn't kill this buck. My buddy's Grandad killed it in CO. 28" main beams.

Thanks guys,
My dad killed some great and I do mean great Muley Bucks but this one was his pride and joy. Unfortunately all his racks prior to 1956 were stolen out his barn in Idaho the year he moved to Washington. He only brought this one buck with him. He had a 41" typical that was a pig, some huge Bulls and some monster Antelope, all stolen
He was a great man and the best hunter Ive ever had the pleasure to hunt with.

Oregon, his Gramps said it wasn't the biggest in the group. :o
-
Wow. I don't think I even daydream of bucks that wide...just out of this world!
-
Thats awesome
