went back out today to the same spot but with a new howler for a different sound. i got the whole pack howling back to me but they never showed there fur :bash: this area ive found is full of coyotes and i know there not being hunted because nobody in there right mind would walk as far up that hill as i do to hunt coyote's (its way up there) they seem responsive to calls but i just cant get um in? any help :dunno: there's a real big male up there i want to get, his tracks are huge. i think he may be the one i got a shot at the other day
there's also a ton of bobcats up there. i crossed no less than 10 different bobcat tracks in the snow today, none of witch were there as of Thursday. i didnt see any of those buggers either :'(

one cool thing that did happen while i was calling, i had two little birds (starlings i think) come and land on me. one on my head and the other on my shoulder. so i know the yotes didnt see me i was sittin pretty still
-
they are hard to call this time of year sometimes, I think they are in breeding mode. Sounds like you got a good spot.

What's way up there? I personally will hike many, many, many, miles to call in dogs. I haven't had very much luck (actually none at all) calling back the same dogs that made me on a previous set.

where i hunt there's a lot of guys that dont get to far from the road, i know nobody's going up there because mine are the only tracks in or out. also i walk by what looks like prime coyote areas to get back in where they live. ive had these same dogs respond three time in a row, what i need now is to "close the deal" im going back up tomorrow
-
What do you mean by responding? Are you calling or howling at them, and then they start howling back? If that's the case they probably will not come in. Or are they moving toward your location? In which case they might be moving downwind and scenting you? Maybe try another stand? Good Luck!
-
Bring your big gun :mgun: The furs are gone to crap now so you don't have to worry about pelts and if your a good shot you can reach out farther. As far as a closing call, I can't figure out what works so let me know what you come up with.

there howling back and had the one come in the other day to 100 yards and hang up but he didnt give me a shot till he was back out to 500+ i missed had a lot of brush to shoot threw and im pretty sure it deflected. im im gunna try just distress calls tomorrow tho im not the best caller i am getting better. shouldn't there hides still be pretty good? i know it was darn cold up there today

The dogs around here are starting to shed, don't know about where you are? Just keep trying. I don't believe there's a secret to it. Just hard work. Sounds like you are working hard, and success will come!

stay away from that spot,I think your educating them..if bobs are around work on them, better than dogs.skirt some brush choked areas.with water close by.

Maybe I don't know a good pelt when I see one, but I skinned a one out on Friday, with no trace "blown coat". Nice and thick. The pelt is double-bagged and in the freezer until I can find some one to flesh it and tan it out for me as a wall hanging. At least its there until my wife gets back from her trip. When she finds it... who knows what will happen.
Best of luck getting those 'yotes to come in. I don't have any advice to offer there.

The last few I've seen just west of spokane look like they are sheding fur. I saw a couple up around davenport last week though and they looked nice still but I'm not an expert by any means and didn't get any on the ground so :dunno: .

Hey littlebuf did you go back out to your spot today?
-
no i woke up with a stiff back and decided to give the spot (and myself) a rest. ive been hitting it pretty hard up there. maybe a week off will help change my luck up there :dunno: im not giving up tho. theres just to many dogs and cats running around in that area. i sure hope i can figure it out
