Wow!

:yike:
That's pretty interesting, wonder what has pushed her that far?
-
Pretty obvious they were eye-balling the picture taker. Overheard at the scene: Little ursus arctos horribilis: "Momma, what do those homo sapiens taste like?" Momma ursus arctos horribilis: "They taste like chicken, son, but first you get to chase and play with them".

You've got it all wrong. We need more of them. The USFWS and WDFW will help.

Neat photo. They are an amazing animal.

Wonder where dad is?

I love seeing Grizzlies.

Hear ya timberfaller, I too wonder what weekend it was, been in that country quite a bit over the last month to 6 weeks, never seen that kind of green unless some big old sprinklers were shootin since may, just saying :dunno:,,,did see a big one about 3-4 miles up Ramsey Creek about 25 years ago that we reported to Fish and Game(it was confirmed by a fella we knew on the inside)...thats a fact
-
It was this last weekend between Buzzard Lake and the top of the hill.

Yikes! I was all up in that country Friday before last!
-
Wow! :yike: We do a lot of camping and riding there, almost always see big black bears, but no Griz....yet!
-
damn. I was up at buzzard lake looking all over for bear a week ago. Only saw a cub. Glad I didn't encounter these grizz.
-
Kind of a strange area for those to be hagning out in. :o
Cool photo.
-
Everyone who bear hunts any where remotely close to known grizzly areas should take the grizzly bear test until you pass with 100%...
-
I've met and had a few beers with the OP. 100% not a guy to make this up for kicks and giggles.
-
Wow
-
Whoa - good picture also,

@SilkOnTheWetSide
-
Whoa - good picture also,
:yeah: It's an excellent photo!
-
So soft and cuddly, round fuzzy faces. Can I pet them? What could go wrong?

I really like the cautous expression on mama and the "Can I fight it?!?" stance from the cub.

:chuckle: Okay everyone, it's all true then.
Case confirmed.
:salute:
-
Maybe not. Our OP may have bad info. If so, I'll give him some good natured grief. I'd still stand up and say what I did.
-
bad info or not, it's still a cool encounter someone had. We don't need rude folks trashing a thread just because "last weekend" might have actually meant a couple months ago in June (or not)
Who cares. I still thank the OP for sharing what he knows.

It's actually north west of Okanagan the town, which is closer than Conconuly.
-
Buzzard Lake is off the east side of Loop Loop I think.
-
Here you go.
-
Cool photo.
-
Near leader lake of highway 20. The person that took the photo called in about it today.

Awesome photo!!!

Thanks for sharing the great photo and information.

Just my :twocents: , but there's still green grass to be found in the mountains right now. Especially on north slopes, along creek drainages and at elevation. We just rode atvs in the 100 degree heat around Wallace, ID last weekend and found lots of green pockets with green grass, ferns, cedars, etc. No matter when this photo was taken, its the animal content of the photo that makes it cool, not the time of year it was taken. Thanks for sharing!!

I'd expect them there, I was thinking more out of the Pasayten. I wonder if the fire pushed them.
-
The part that's interesting to me is that if there's a mama with a cub, that means there's a papa around somewhere too! Its amazing to me how those animals find each other out there, when we have thousands of sets of eyes in the wilderness every year and can't seem to find them.
-
Honestly there's more grizz than you probably guess. I know of several in the methow, but we don't often beat down the biologists door. This one is a surprise for me though. I'm curious if displaced by the fire in the pasayten, or expansion out of the starvation country. Probably the latter. Probably had to do with that burn.

I agree. I spent some time in the mountains last weekend. Lots of green still present.
This was 3 weeks ago on the border of the Yakama reservation at 6000-ish feet in a wide open to the sky area....

Their sense of smell is far greater then one can imagine, when animal is in heat the males will find them. :chuckle:

I laughed when I saw a bottle of moose in heat for sale at the store. Anyone who has spent time with moose know why I was laughing. I wonder if there is a market for Grizz in heat?

If you find some put it on your boots, not mine :o

That part of Okanogan hasn't had rain in over 65 days so I have a hard time believing the timing of this photo as well as the location.

I was just in this area Tuesday and there are still green patches to be found... salmon crk area
Again, it's a cool photo! No need to trash this thread

It's barely rained twice here in ~3 months. Still green.

If it wasn't for the fact that I am swamped at work right now and helping with the veteran hunt I would put $1000 down on the table and take you to the exact location. But if you don't believe me go out to those gps co ordinates and do a 360 degree video and post up here.

Some people just like to argue for the sake of it, if he doesn't want to believe it that's his problem.
It's still an awesome photos of a Wa grizz and her cub.
If I would have taken that photo it would be enlarged and on my wall. :kneel:

That's awesome for Washington.

I also really appreciate you sharing this really cool pic.
Don't let a couple people who weren't there ruin it for you.
Besides, I'm quite confident that you'd win the $1K.
Thanks again for sharing.

I'm into grizzly almost every fall Double. Ive had encounters since back in the 80s. I've almost had my you know what handed to me. I think it's awesome you posted that pic. I haven't seen any right there in that hood. I've seen them working near starvation, so it's not a wild step. You have nothing to prove. I've had arguements like this since middle school. Someone thought I hadn't seen a blacktail in the valley. Then it was a moose, then it was a wolf, then a Lynx. Even had a bighorn walk across my Dads horse pasture. This year it was a Fisher. Point is, wild animals get around. Spend some time in big country and you will see all sorts of stuff. Then everyone wants you to get on the horn to the WDFW. Why? Most of the time they won't believe you and I can't say I blame them. They have yahooooo after yahooooo that don't know ....... from ........... reporting. If they do research it, the next thing you know you have the area shutdown. I'll never forget sitting in my dads living room watching a pack of wolves on the hill. The biologist called. (Coincidence) He had never even seen one before. Lol. Imagine his surprise, "watching 5 or six of them on the hill right now". How can you study an animal you have never seen..... The next day there were about seven guys cross country skiing on the hill. I'm sure it's easy to sneak up on a wolf with seven guys. They chaulked it up to a coyote. Those pics ended up in a magazine article. Rant almost over. Cool photo.
Don't drink the koolaide people. Because they say they aren't here. Roflmao! Or that they want to introduce them. They are here where it will support them. Now with the big fires, it may support more of them. We shall see.

Ok.. I bit. :) I was up in the area last weekend so I took a little detour Sunday evening and drove up to the coordinates. (yikes that road sucks! Low clearance vehicles need not apply!)
Currently the grass and weeds everywhere I went before and after the coordinates is leaps and bounds taller than in this picture. I was surprised on how much was still green, but nowhere in the area was the grass this short. No buttercups ( or whatever the yellow flowers are) were visible any where.

Very cool. I like bears, including grizzlies.
Cool to watch. Cool to hunt. Shot an arctic grizzly earlier this year, in Alaska.
The grizz has always been around, I suspect. Not in big numbers here, not for a long time, but they've been around.

I've put the Biologist in touch with the original photographer. I put an estimate area guessed on what was relayed to me. They are meeting him to point it out.
-
I thought we were not doing this any more? This whole grass is too green tree is too tall where is your proof garbage. This thread is really a test of our new huntwa and it's still sketchy if you ask me.
I am however happy you shared the pics pretty cool to see WA griz period.
-
I spent all day in okanagan county yesterday up high, low, and mid elevation saw plenty of green grass. ;)
Now deer not so much, but hey saw lots of really cool wolf tracks. >:( :o

We've removed a good deal of negative posts and I asked the OP if he would like me to remove more posts, we are definitely on it!
