Post by: Relaniums on September 14, 2017, 07:21:27 PM

Called a nice 5x5 within 60 yards this morning. Didn't have a bull tag though

Yep east side is picking up. They are herding up as well. Saw a bull with 59 cows last night and another bull with 37 cows this morning. Different bulls different areas.

Just came back from 5 days of chasing nothing on the east side. No bugles. No cows. No spikes. All we saw was hunters.... and more hunters....

 :yeah:
Pretty much the same in the SW cascade area. Saw 1 cow 200 yards away. She barked twice and bolted. 4 days and that was the highlight.

Just heard over 100 bugles (easily) in 4 days hunting with a buddy in WY.  No tag for me, I was just along for fun.  Saw 5 bulls, and had countless others within 50 yards in the timber/brush.  He's still looking for the right one, and I had to come home.

Things really picked up on the 13th...

As everyone knows by now , im a 364 bow hunter , and ive spent knight after knight sitting up just to listen for a real buggle season after season , its like Wayne Charlton says ,,,,hang your calls on a rack at home, elk in our area have resorted to complete silence as to the pressures of man and idiot plowing threw the woods everyday , the lost calf call is all you really can depend on and that Lewis is from the champ and call maker and seller,as for Wyoming stuff I believe every bit of that. I have literally seen elk run from calls of well exsperianced hunters. If you hunt west side all you need is the calf call , ive seen it work twice in two years cows come running in and bulls are supposed to follow but that part I haven't seen yet but we did get a 4x5 to come running ,,uphill !! right to us again as you all know I had a bull tag and got everything but a shot , wow ! what a day , no reward but completely fulfilled, never forget it,,,,,sooooooo get out there before they raise  the parking fees !!! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I live a couple hundred yards from Meadowbrook Farms between Snoqualmie and North Bend. The elk were pretty vocal last night.

Indeed. Real sporadic where I'm at on the west side though. Just started up on the 12th, after 3 days of crickets. Early morning first hour, and the last 2.5 hours of light, ya might get a few unsolicited bugles.

Was on the heels of a small herd today in the thick.  They didn't make a peep.  No cow calls no bugles. Only response was when wind swirled and they busted us I slowed them with some frantic cow calls from a run to a walk.. :bash:

Hit or miss on the east side for me.  The night after opening day from 2-3 am several bulls sounded off over and over.  I took a few days off and hit it again for a couple more days.  On Friday morning a nice 6-point that I had on a game cam came to within 30 yards first thing in the morning after bugling every couple hundred yards, and then came in an hour later 15' away.  It was one of the most exciting encounters I've ever had in the elk woods.  Wish I could post a pic.  On Saturday I found him again since he spent a good part of the day still bugling while looking for girlfriends.

On a side note, I was so close to shooting a number of times but couldn't quite get the sure kill shot, except 4 times at 2 different 6-pointers that I couldn't shoot without a special permit.  My first time hunting this area - I'll be back!

A bugle is also the dinner bell for wolves , Mr. Majestic has adjusted to that also , Wayne Charlton is right again , a bugle has amounted to a alarm , hay everybody here I am over here is there anything that would like to eat me , leave your bugler at home with your yoogler or Googler

I got in between 3 bulls screaming at each other last Saturday in 328, no cows.

Lots of bugles at daylight and dark in the 346. They were not fired up yet as of this mornings hunt. Bulls I saw had zero interest in cow calls.
