Spent 17 days archery hunting in Idaho and was finally able to pull it off with 1 hunting day left.

I'd love to tell you the story of how I called him in and he was screaming in my face but that's not at all how it went down.  I bumped a cow and ended up between her and this bull that was on her trail and he walked right to me 30 yards away.  I made a aweful shot not sure in my arrow deflected off something or what but the shot was way back.  Had a great blood trail for such a poor shot.  Gave the bull 2 hours before we starting tracking ended up bumping him 3 time seeing him twice but no shot opportunities before we lost light and the blood trail.  Back on the trail the next morning spread out and searched the area to pick up the blood trail again.  Found little drops of blood and then a dead elk in his bed about 1/4 mile from where we last saw him the night before.  I feel pretty luck to have found him 26 hours after I shot him.

Stuff happens, but you followed up and tracked him down. 1/4 mile is an insanely long distance to find an animal from shot location. Great work.

Great job tracking him down!!

How were the hornets in your area?  I was in the panhandle and the baldfaced and yellow jackets were very bad.  Baldface so aggressive you could not get to a kill after that amount of time, they even had the yellowjackets chased away and none on a carcass.  Snow came in a few days ago though, should end that issue for the guys still in camp.

Nice! We are headed back today.  Had tons of trail cam bulls on waterholes but foot of snow ruined that plan for central Idah rifle.

Way to stick with it. That's a long time in the woods you deserve it.

DRock: "Okay kids, shot placement in bowhunting is very important.  Elk are very tough and if you don't hit them in the right spot you'll never kill one."

Kids: "But master archer DRock, where is the right spot"

DRock: "See my attached photo with the "boiler room" outlined.  I've killed elk with shots in every area outlined.  Follow my path to success!"

Stang: *grumble* "This is so BS" *grumble* - Eats McDonalds burger in sadness

its tuff up there this archery season. my plans changed from being up there all this week to going up next. weathers truing around and I'm crossing my fingers for the woods to come to life with a good high pressure and clear sky's after a very stormy week.

Hilarious! Ironically I have friends that have taken animals all over this "boiler room" diagram.

D Rock, , way to peservere! He may not have come in the way you'd hoped, screaming and all that, but if you hadn't ground it out and been in the field, we'd never get to see your bull.

If you shoot the right broadhead you just have to be minute of elk.

We all have a story like this. Sometimes things don't go as planned. Luckily you got him. Unfortunately most hunters would have given up. Good job
