Snohomish, Skykomish and Snoqualmie rivers to close to pink salmon fishing

Action: Closes the Snohomish River, including the Skykomish and Snoqualmie rivers, to the retention of pink salmon.

Effective Date: Sept. 22, 2017, until further notice.

Species affected: Pink salmon.

Reason for action: The rule is necessary to protect returning pink runs to the Snohomish River Watershed. In-season run-size assessments conducted by state and tribal co-managers indicate that pink run sizes are below the escapement goal in the Snohomish basin.

Other information: The Skykomish and Snoqualmie rivers are tributaries to the Snohomish River and will also close to the retention of pink salmon. The rivers will still be open to fishing for other species of salmon, with a daily limit of three coho. The Wallace River, another tributary to the Snohomish River, remains closed to all fishing. Check the 2017-18 Fishing Rules Pamphlet for specific regulations.

Information contact: Mill Creek Regional Office: (425) 775-1311.

I honestly feel this 3 river system should be closed to ALL fishing for minimum 3 years, 4 would be better for kings.
That's the only way I see it coming back as a viable fishery.  :twocents:

You are crazy, it's been great fishing this year! The number of people out there tell a story. The warm "blob" off the coast did a number on about 3 years of salmon runs. These things come in cycles and will be near the same numbers. The size of fish have been great this year as well. Lot's to look forward to and it even seems like the hatcheries are going to start pumping out more fish! Hell, i'm excited

If they close it, they'll find reason to keep it closed.  One river I used to go to a lot was supposed to open back up last year, but it'll be closed until June 2019.  My guess is that in 2019, it will be kept closed for another two years.

With 8-2 closed for pinks it made no sense to me they left the rivers open except to sell licenses.

They gotta make there money in license sales. Why else would they open it for a short time?
