So my dad is a disable Vet. I'm pretty sure he qualifies from what I can gather on the WDFW site.
He hasn't hunted for over 30 years and even back then was just short outings with no idea really what he was doing. Never got anything. But he took me out a few times and we have a few good memories regardless. We were more into fishing and backpacking.
Anyway, now that I'm into hunting more and more, he's starting to get interested. I'm hoping I can take him to the 121\Huckleberry unit for a chance at whitetail deer and turkey. I'm already going with my 14yr old son to some private land I have been invited to hunt.
Anyway, I know about the WDFW site and I'm going to have him start the process as outlined there. But there is a lot of info and a short amount of time to get ready for the Oct 14 Modern opener that we are doing.
Can anyone give me the cliff notes version? Assuming he qualifies and all that, how do we best utilize the system to help give him some great opportunities? He's only got a handful of years left (if that) where he can get out there and hunt. He's mobile - his disability is a brain injury and it keeps chipping away at him bit by bit. But he can get out and do a bit of walking - so doesn't need wheelchair access and such...
Anyway, anyone else been through this? Tips to help us get him rolling and hopefully make his first big game kill?
Thanks!

Cliff Note version: contact Delores Noyes if you need any assistance on the WDFW side.
For access and other issues: hopefully some members here can provide some assistance.
I hope it works out for him.

I have helped several get this done especially thru TFO.
criteria to meet:
1) Non-resident veterans with at least 30% service connected disability as verified by VA letter.
2) Non-resident veterans 65 years of age or older with a service connected disability as verified by VA letter
first you need a wild id number setup (u do on line) don't purchase license
second on this link http://wdfw.wa.gov/accessibility/requirements_veterans.html you get his VA elig letter copy for WDFW
3rd call bobs link and talk with the nice person to FAX copy direct, she will update same day,
Last, once updated, purchase your license
once estab, this is lifetime maintained by WDFW

Did mine by fax, it was updated in the system 2 hrs later! Pretty simple, fax them disability letter, do a follow up phone call making sure they got it. Then he can buy tags later that day.
