Title: jerks bank fishing
Post by: rasbo on March 02, 2009, 07:45:43 AM: I will probley catch some flac here.I was fishing for kings one day and hooked one,I was using a noodle rod and having a blast fighting him,the fish went down stream I went with him.Everyone except one guy backed off and let me pass,as I was going down I said fish on coming down several times this guy says you should be using heavier rods Im not moving.he was using a G loomis,I advised him I will break his rod in not very nice terms.he did back off and I landed a 26 lb on 6lb test what a kick..I like to watch others catch fish as well as me,anyone coming down I backoff and enjoy.In fact if there a kid around I will hand him the rod,love the look in thier eyes.Owell have at me

Post by: oneezreiter on March 02, 2009, 07:52:18 AM: I think you are right. I grew up with a rod in my hand and was always taught that you move and enjoy the show. If someone is so selfish that they can't enjoy everyones good luck/time they should go to the store and buy there fish.

Whether or not the individual is a bank fisherman or in a boat, what he did was pretty punk in my opinion. Getting out of someone's way when they have a fish on is the proper thing to do.

seems to me there is always some in a crowd but holy crap why don't they just jump in and end their F##KING life if they are that unhappy...
i fish from bank and shore and love to watch the fight of someone catching a nice fish, hell in a final bass tourney for the boat one year up the reach my partner and i stopped fishing for 45 mins to watch a guy fight and land the biggest salmon i have ever seen.. it was great to watch as he just unhooked his gear and let it go.. it must have been 60 or more pounds (honestly) a monster.

miserable people just need to stay home...

Had that happen to us on the Skykomish once. Guy flipped a spoon about 75yds out as we were drifting by. Well, it landed in the boat and got snagged in the carpet. We just left it there as it took line off his reel. The line finally snapped, but not after taking about 80% of his line with it. :chuckle:

We cut the line off the spoon, pulled it in and threw it away when we got home. :IBCOOL:

Post by: cohoho on March 02, 2009, 11:04:11 AM: I agree Rasbo the guy should have just stepped back and let you by "if it wasn't crowded", BUT alot of times say up north, you can't do that and got to run heavier line in a true combat fishing zone and bring the fish straight in. When I brought my lite rod, I'd go up way river of everyone and have fun. Of course that is the number one reason I hated fishing in crowed public combat zones. Too many variations of people, some there for fun, some meat getters, they don't mix for sure. Numerous times people would hook up 50 yards up river and try to cut in front of 50-60 people to chase their fish, sorry but it was normally the Asians and being extremely rude coming down river. It was times like this when a simple reach out with the fillet knife and oops Fish Off.... Back to flipping.

That is just common courtesy. When fishing in a crowd when someone hooks up ya gotta give them some room to work or they won't do the same for you.

To his defense though you shouldn't have been fishing in a crowded area with such light gear. Do what you want when you have a lot of room to land a fish. When you fish crowded areas make sure you use gear up to the task of landing fish in a timely manner. I know I get really frustrated when someone ties up a hole for a long time because he is using too light of gear.

I enjoy watching people catching fish also but I don't get up really early, drive multiple hours just to watch people fish. I don't know anyone who does either.

When you fish in a crowd use the right gear. WHen you fish by yourself do what you want. Always give someone fighting a fish the right of way no matter how long it takes.

I am guilty of light gear, but have been converted by some "fly purists" as they tell me going heavier is better on the fish if you have to release them. Get 'em quick less trauma, but when I have the jet boat running I have one light set up for fun.

Post by: huntnphool on March 03, 2009, 06:19:27 PM: Thats why I drift right on by the combat holes, of course there are guides in boats that act as though the river belongs to them as well, but for the most part when anyone on a boat raises a net most get out of the way and let them drift by.
