Title: Crate covers
Post by: 4T on October 01, 2017, 09:28:18 PM
I need to get a cover for my dogs crate, should I get the insulated or noninsulated?  I live in eastern wa  and will be traveling up to a couple hours each way for different trips.  The mud river covers have caught my eye.  Are there better ones or less expensive that are just as good?  Just looking for some thoughts.

Mud River certainly seems the most popular, although there are other brands out there for cheaper.  Can't speak to their quality, but if you get a Mud River juts be careful putting the cover over the kennel as you can rip the bottom seam if you man handle it (ask me how I know...)

I live on the westside and the temps here rarely get to the point where I feel I really need to use it, but if I lived on the eastside I'd be getting an insulated one.

Where are you at in eastern wa? I think I still have a crate cover in my garage that I never use. I have a canopy on my pickup so my dogs don't go in a crate. You can have it if I still have it around.

I live in CO and often drive several hours to hunt.  The Mudriver covers are very nice, and I highly suggest the insulated covers.  IMO you probably don't need an insulated cover 90% of the time, but it's the time when it's cold and snowing and you put a wet dog in the crate that the insulated cover is worth it's good.  On the opposite side, you don't want to put a hot dog in a crate with the insulated cover without opening the vents.

+1 on the Mud River covers. I found a like new Kennel with brand new Mud river cover on Craigslist for cheap. If you can't meet any of the other members on here, then that's a great place to look. The quality is great. I live on the Eastside and will definitely be using it this season. I just leave all the vents open for normal trips so my dog gets some airflow.

I've got the mud river insulated on my kennel. Really like it. If it's warm I open up the flaps and if it gets really hot I take the whole thing off

I haven an insulated cover with flaps on both sides and the front.  I bought it at Cabelas in the bargain bin, I don't see any reason why I would want to pay more for a name brand.  They all seem pretty similar.
